i had this discussion with some friends recently, could any act/band/group reunite and sell a million? or at least close to that? history stays the same of course, looking at US sales/charts. NSYNC? destiny's child was a pick that made sense. spice girls if they have a huge single? anyone else want to throw something into the ring?
but seriously, could anyone? the last metallica album sold almost 300k. which is a very interesting marker. if led zeppelin put out a reunion album how would that do? 500k? not even that? could any legacy act ever do more at this point? all really fascinating
This is a great point. Between just Spotify and preorders, she's already done 650k-750k first week. Do pre-album track sales count towards first week sales as well? She's definitely over the hump if so.
Still won't be 1 to 1 unless someone else is paying. There's a dollar amount needed to hit for a sale. Might count as an AEU (1,500 = 1).
could it potentially be similar to the rihanna/samsung/anti where samsung essentially bought copies and then it was available free?
Isn't the dollar amount already hit by the initial pre-order cost though? It's like when Samsung bought a million Jay Z albums and then users redeemed for free. Samsung paid, and the users "indicated interest" or whatever the hell.
For one. Not for three. For example: a digital download card included with your vinyl doesn't count for two sales when you download it or give it to a friend.
