Kanye’s trump endorsement, among other actions on his Pablo rollout/cycle, were disgusting. He’s also disavowed Trump. No, he shouldn’t have expressed support in the first place. But he took it back. Stupid and atrocious all around, but there are a lot of holes in using Kanye as a defense.

As has been said, the simplest way to make it clear is to just say clearly and simply “I don’t want the support of Nazis and racists”. Even Papa Johns has done that.

 

here's my take. I'm guessing a decent portion of Taylor's fan base is conservative, not including the far right. That portion of the fan base would probably call her statement liberal pandering if she came out against the alt right. So she doesn't. Just a guess, and if that's the case it's cowardly as hell. But who knows.

 

Tbh I can't imagine not speaking out but maybe that's why I'm not a successful millionaire (that's obviously the only reason of course)

with the way the current political and cultural landscape is (us vs. them tribalism, the regressive left attack machine, virtue signaling via demonization) it could be that she just doesn’t wanna get involved and instead direct her energy to making her own unique positive contribution to the world.

like andrew mcmahon (my fave artist) is obviously a very liberal guy and says he’s very politically vocal in private, but made the decision to keep it out of his music and public life. he’s not acting out of cowardice but instead wants to focus on spreading love, positivity, and unity via his music--instead of getting sucked into a political shitstorm that’s founded on division and tearing others down. as he’s said, a concert is one of the few places where we can brush up against self-transcendence and realize we’re not so different.

Tbh I think this whole era feels out of touch for me. Like she's going on this crusade against the media she is desperately trying to control and how these evil liars took her crown and I'm like omg sis who cares???? I know there will always be Bigger Problems but with all the other stuff going on rn I'm just not caring about it, unless she says something more meaningful about it on the album I guess. Like not all music has to touch on the current political landscape (and sometimes it's a nice escape when it doesn't) but it's like a whole era about how she miscalculated for once and took an L and the media and ppl are being mean to her when she's out there sending letters trying to intimidate ppl who critique her. Idk sis. I shouldn't have commented until I got off work and read up so oop at my rapidly changing tone in my posts

for someone so meticulous about their brand, you’d think she’d want to immediately denounce her image being associated with nazis. I don’t think she’s a Trump supporter or that she is happy to be the internet’s Aryan princess...it’s just REALLY weird that as the celeb most known for her carefully curated image, she won’t just nip this in the bud. It’s not even a political stance to say “I don’t like nazis.”

Her marketing isn’t even consistent this era so it makes even less sense that she won’t just make a damn tweet- “there will be no explanation, just reputation” - issues a bunch of cease and desist letters, explicitly tells fans who songs are about for the first time, has her publicist issuing denials about friendships falling out or being obsessed w her boyfriend via gossip cop every 2 seconds...idk. You’ve got time to make sure everyone knows you’re still friends with Karlie Kloss, but not to let them know you are not sending subliminal messages to white nationalists. Okay.

 

it's so easy to be jaded about these things but I really hope this album is as good as these fans are making it look because I really liked Red and 1989. Also that Taylor Swift guitar pick... do want.
