That was fucking awful and trashy. What the hell happened to her. The lyrics are dog shit and basically admit to her cheating? It's not very catchy. Look What You Made Me do was awful, but it was at least...a novelty? In the words of David Bazan "Stop romanticizing cheating" I just really don't see how any one of those singles is better than any song on 1989. If these three songs were put out by anybody that didn't have the name Taylor Swift, they would be called garbage.
Don’t love the chorus but there’s some good stuff here. I was genuinely surprised by the line about her cats, but I love it.
I don't think the lyrics are any grosser than You Belong With Me I guess people expect her to get less petty with age though
I think it's a tad worse. especially with the lyrics and her having a boyfriend in the song. Back then she still had the school girl persona and the narrative was a bit more like, she doesn't get you, but I'd treat you well. Not like...you're my secret bad habit and I want you so bad coming from the current Ice Queen Taylor. And I didn't expect her to get less petty....but this rollout and album has been....uh...shockingly petty
so y'all have never had a shitty, mean partner that made you unhappy. wild. edit: anna has talked abt this subject very smartly before and i'm sure she'll be here soon to do a better job, but also maybe it's just not that serious lmao.
It’s my favorite of the three but the atrocious lyrics keep me from liking it as much as I want to. I like the idea conceptually and thematically but the execution plays really bad. Dig it well enough sonically though.
the chorus is so anti-climatic, and I really think the bridge of "you. are. so. gorgeous. it. makes. me. so. mad" etc just sounds... bad
not feeling this one at all, even though I took to the other two fine. on another note I just happened to be logged into UPS and noticed there's a packaged scheduled for tomorrow from taylor nation? ... is she pulling a brand new?
I work at UPS and we got one of those trucks in ourwarehouse last night, man those things are ugly also I think I like the song even though she rhymes face with face
I finally figured it out, this is her Easy A era edit the old Olive can't come to the phone right now
No, I haven't had a shitty mean partner that I've stayed with and cheated on. Does the song mention they were shitty?
Hold onto your butts, kids. This song doesn't read to me as being about cheating on someone. It's about meeting someone intriguing and *wanting* them when you're on the last legs of an unfilling relationship. Not ideal, but certainly very human. And, imo, as a decade long Taylor Swift forensic lyric scientist, yes - the "he's in the club doing who knows what" (or whatever it was... didn't look it up first to verify) implies a WHOLE LOT about the quality of the relationship/her boyfriend's own fidelity/investment, and none of it is good. Plus, her boyfriend doesn't get mentioned again. Kind of seems to me that the song covers a span of time, where the boyfriend exited the picture by the time the song ends. Otherwise, why would homegirl be going home alone to her cats? So. Feel how you wanna feel about the quality of the song (definitely not her best lyrical work, but honestly I'm gonna go the other way and say if someone's fave who DIDN'T have the name Taylor Swift released it nobody would have this big an issue over the lyrics) buuuuuuuut this song is a fantasy, not an admission of cheating. We can agree to disagree on that front, but as someone who released a song on very similar subject matter earlier this year, game recognizes game.
Yeah, I didn't hear this as being about cheating at all. I thought it was more along the lines of "Enchanted."
I mean, it really is all in how it's interpreted. I still don't think it comes across great or well done, but to each their own. And I meant on the musical quality for the whole anonymous test. She obviously gets more critiques over subject matter because of the whole petty ice queen rollout with Look What You Made Me Do. Also, I really wonder how it would be perceived if the genders were swapped and it was a song a guy wrote about a gorgeous girl he saw, and his girlfriend was off somewhere not around.
The only bit that makes it sound like Taylor is maybe considering cheating is the "Unless you want to come along" Song itself is alright. Better than this thread made me think it was reading it. Better than LWYMMD. But not as good as Ready For It.
"A sweet and beautiful girl, who is rumored to be cold blooded and heartless." As urban dictionary states for ice queen. And I feel like the subject material of Look What You Made Me Do with the lyrics and the album cover came off as a tad petty. Really dwelling on the whole Kim and Kanye controversy and the bad girl persona and her name written out in magazine font a million times and I could go on. I mean, I could be totally interpreting it all wrong. But that's really the whole vibe I've been getting from post 1989 Taylor
