I'm not a huge fan of Fearless outside of a handful of songs either. Even Speak Now I think is mostly just ok with a few great songs.
All You Had To Do Was Stay is a song from 1989 that I feel no one ever talks about but is probably my favorite song on that whole record, top three at least
I think about this all the time, especially when Zedd and Alessia Cara basically store the melody line + lyrics and made it a huge hit.
What's the dollar amount that a person needs to earn/possess for their rights to copyright, intellectual property, and private property to stop mattering? Asking for a friend.
I object to people trying to trademark their names. That's dumb. But a lyric you wrote should be yours. No question.
it's also slightly different because she went after random Etsy sellers with the 1989 trademarks, and people are putting their blood sweat and tears into that stuff Taylor Swift's Lawyers Threatened Etsy Sellers In Trademark Dispute
Just cause you put your blood sweat and tears into something doesn't mean you can profit on other people's art. You can put a lot of work into your stuff, but if you use my logo or call your website "chorus.fm" or "absolutepunk" — that's gonna be an issue for quite a few reasons. I don't want people misrepresenting who they are and using my name, possibly misleading people and making them dislike me because of it. A lot of bands wish they could go after counterfeit merch but don't have the ability. There's an entire cottage industry around using Brand New imagery/album artwork without the band's, or photographer's, permission. I'm going to have a hard time agreeing with any argument that says artist's shouldn't be be paid for their work. And artists that don't want to license their work for artistic reasons - like Bill Watterson - shouldn't be forced to via counterfeit merch.
