the verses remind me of something really specifically, but I can not for the life of me figure it out
the song i am thinking of, has lyrics like... "i could your.... (something)" "queen of ____ island(?)" I can't hear enough of it in my head to figure out the song
I think this song actually has a pretty great chorus, the verses just really detract from the song as a whole. When you watch her IG story which just has the last chorus, it sounds like a completely different song than when hearing it context with those shitty verses and the buildup of each subsequent chorus' instrumentation. The lyrics have been completely empty from these songs so far too, which takes the wind out of the "bad" image. She's saying "look what you made me do" but all she's done so far is make a few sub-par pop songs. Seems like she's stuck between wanting to all-in on a Rated R style turning point album and wanting to perpetuate the family friendly image that's gotten her this far.
First track grew on me a bit but I don't think this will. The chorus is solid but those verses...just no, Taylor.
Well, welcome to ny was track one on 1989 and shake it off was the first single and both those were bad, maybe this will be good. I mean I don't like 1989 much but the rest of the album was much better than those two tracks.
I like the new one. It sounds a lot more typical Taylor (at least the chorus). I probably like LWYMMD a little more. Still think people are being very dramatic acting like this is so different for her. For better or worse this is all the same cringey habits she's always had - just set to songs that could be played in a club. I don't know my biggest issue is I feel like in a couple years we'll remember everything about the rollout except the songs themselves.
Welcome to New York and Shake it Off were two of the weakest on 1989 but both were way better than these two songs imo. Still hopeful that I'll like some of this album though.
