I don't know who said it first, but I can't get over how This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things is basically a fun. song. Those drums are so very "One Foot," the chorus has the same big grand sing along feels, it's great
Made her less money but given her a slightly larger weekly total with SEAs? My completely unscientific guess is she’d have broken 2M. I’d have contributed a few hundred streams myself. No one’s saying her first week sales are bad... they’re great. Apparently some people only want to read the first half of my sentences.
I Did Something Bad makes me feel like I can kick through a wall. Still getting chills every time at the “light me up GO AHEAD AND LIGHT ME UP” bit.
I think the biggest ever streaming week was Drake's More Life earlier this year, which racked up like 260,000 equivalent units in streams or something. So 2 million might still have been out of reach, but she would have almost definitely broken 1.5 million. It is definitely a prime running album.
Does Soundscan report on those? I never see it written out anywhere except chart articles... where’s the primary source? I probably have a login but haven’t checked... If that’s the top of the year (for an album that’s nearly twice as long and had a major push by Spotify), seems like she 100% made the right choice by windowing.
Yep the production has so many similarities to Some Nights that I've questioned if Jack brought her something he was working on while writing for that album. I've been mentally comparing it to It Gets Better, but now that you say One Foot, that fits way better. Plus the piano line in the song sounds like We Are Young's, and it has that grandiose feeling that the whole album had.
I didn't listen to this all last week. I listened to it yesterday though to see if maybe it'd click with me finally. No dice... Still not into this record. There's a couple songs that I like enough, but none that I'd throw on a "Best of Taylor Swift" playlist or anything like that.
Reputation sold north 1.2 million units in its first measured week. The other 199 albums on the Billboard 200 combined sold only 723,000 units
Taylor Swift Debuts on Pop Songs Chart With 'End Game' & Country Airplay With 'New Year's Day' The superstar charts a third entry on the Pop Songs tally (dated Dec. 2), as "End Game," featuring Ed Sheeran and Future, debuts at No. 32. Lead single "Look What You Made Me Do" topped the Oct. 28-dated list, becoming her eighth No. 1, and follow-up "…Ready for It?" rises 15-14 this week.
Lol everyone ran scared of Swizzy. Can't wait to see what week 2 looks like... does anyone else remember what kind of legs Red and 1989 had?
That's definitely a huge factor of why this is possible, even when 1989 was released it would have been a hard stat to achieve
Self-titled is 5x platinum Fearless is 7x platinum (8m worldwide) Speak Now is 4x platinum (5m worldwide) Red is 4x platinum (6m worldwide) 1989 is 6x platinum (10m worldwide) Speak Now is clearly where the industry shifted...which makes what Red and to an even greater extent 1989 did more impressive.
I know most of you don't like "So It Goes..." (somehow), but the part where she whispers "1, 2, 3" is one of my favorite small things on this album.
Guess that’s what happens when you’re one of the few major artists to nail the rich older people demographic and the youngins. Even then that feels too shallow of a reason.
What I want to know about Adele is sure millions and millions like her. But who out there is really passionate about Adele? Who is just out there right now scouring the internet for any clues about what she may be up to? It just kind of feels like something everyone buys cus the new Adele record is out and they want to be a part of it. I mean don't get me wrong, I like her, I think she makes good music and her talent is undeniable.
We aren't exactly the target demographic, which is why we don't see it as much. Adele has PLENTY of rabid fans
