I feel like we did a "rank the track 5s" in a Taylor thread relatively recently, but... All Too Well>Dear John>My Tears Ricochet>All You Had To Do Was Stay>You're On Your Own, Kid>White Horse>Delicate>Tolerate It>The Archer>Cold As You
Those are most likely my top three fifth tracks as well. "All Too Well" & "Archer" specifically are my clear top two.
"Cold As You" is pretty underrated. That song and "Mary's Song" are the self-titled songs I'm most excited to hear as a (Taylor's Version) track. My other favorite from that debut is "I'm Only Me When I'm With You," which I'm very interested in hearing, though the vocal recording on the original would be pretty hard to top. While some of her songs have a lot to gain from being recorded by a 30-something Taylor, that's one that's elevated by the rough, youthful energy.
Imagine thinking you were the first one to do a scene in something where someone pushed another person down. Lol.
I agree that comparison is silly but at the same time I think it's crazy that no one is talking about the "Karma" chorus imitating "Music Is My Hot Hot Sex". That song was pretty popular! Do yall not think it's similar or just don't care?
Bejeweled video is fun, as her videos often are, but I think I am pretty confident at this point that is my least favorite off at least the main album. that chorus really falls off a cliff with the “familiarity breeds contempt” line for me… her wordiness is at its worst there. still not something I skip or anything, just definitely the weakest track to my ears.
it also, like, doesn’t recover from it after to me. the next few lines aren’t as wordy or clunky but they feel disconnected like the flow is just entirely fucked up lol.
the second little NICE after each chorus makes bejeweled for me. Mid tier track on the album, good but not excellent. ironically as one of the people here driving the 'this album is awesome but her lyrics have regressed' bus, the familiarity line doesn't bug me much. I guess this is a hot take but i think my tears ricochet is the worst song on either covid album. Melodramatic and dull if you ask me! The Archer is pretty easily her best track 5 in my book, but admittedly that stems from how far overexposure made ATW fall in my rankings over the past year. Don't think music is my hot hot sex sounds even a little bit like Karma. The chorus of Karma did immediately remind me of something I've heard before, but I may never quite be able to put my finger on it.
ha, I hate that “nice!” in Bejeweled. Reminds me of the weird vocal mixing of “We-ee!” in WANEGBT (TV)
