I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm pretty underwhelmed after my first listen. Lavender Haze and Karma were the only songs that stood out to me. I'm gonna need to give this another listen today. But first I gotta dive into the Arctic Monkeys album.
My gut reaction is that this is the least that I've ever liked one of her albums after an initial listen. Reputation at least has So It Goes, Dress, and New Years Day going for it. I don't particularly hate anything on here, but there's no "wow" moment anywhere on this album for me.
listening for the first time, i'm not a huge fan outside of the last 2 albums and this is just kinda there. i honestly liked vigilante shit and bejeweled the most cause they actually stood out. still have 7 songs left.
can’t say I’m a huge fan of romanticizing cheating. But seems to be a theme as of late lol. “if you cheat on me you’re an awful man and a monster. But if I cheat on you…it’s cause you didn’t love me enough clearly!”
This was me as well. It's improving with multiple listens, and I'll continue to give it time because she's earned it.
Lover at least has the title track (which I think is an all timer), Cruel Summer and The Archer. I like Paper Rings and Death by a Thousand Cuts too
Totally agree on this. I totally respect Jack as a musician overall but personally I can't stand his production. It drives me absolutely insane.
Every time I've listened to Maroon I've heard "The Marc Gasol on my collarbone" Don't click that if you don't like misheard lyrics.
One day I'd like Jack to use a pseudonym on an album he produces so we can skip over all of that discourse.
I don't think I've watched a music video in many, many years, but the Anti-Hero video was great. When Mike Birbiglia said "she's turning it into a f---ing cat sanctuary" I died laughing. I'm still chuckling at it.
The dynamic range is the opposite of flat, so.... I dunno either People will listen to an "indie" record that sounds like it was recorded in a tin can through styrofoam mics and turn around and be like "but Jack Antonoff ruined The 1975." I could rant about this forever.
