I dunno, this sounds way more in line with the more understated parts of Reputation IMO. Dress in particular.
One of my local shops teasing a surprise for Monday - I’m assuming it’s just signed CDs but we will see
Yeah big False God vibes on Lavender Haze especially. I love it though, False God is one of my favorites ever from her.
They are more understated, but there are a ton of hooks on this album. Having suffered through a ton of critically acclaimed albums in the past 3-5 years that had absolutely no melodies at all, I just found the criticism to be pretty funny. "Midnight Rain" is like all hook!
Lover meets Evermore is accurate, but unfortunately they're two of my least favorite Taylor albums. This really harnesses the style that she uses in 1-2 songs per album that I don't like that much. It's growing on me on the second listen. My wife is going to play it incessantly in her car so I assume I'll wind up liking it like I do all of her albums.
I was really enjoying The Great War and Bigger Than The Whole Sky. And then Paris, High Infidelity, and Glitch came and stunk it up.
One of the coolest things about Taylor is that she clearly just loves writing music. I think this takes us to almost 90 new songs since 2019.
7 more songs huh? I am so fucking tired. I'm moody af, I Can't afford merch and she wanted us to stay up till 3am? I think its officially time to hang up my "stay up till 1am for new ablums" hat and call it what it is....I'm fucking old.
I like Bejeweled. She does this weird thing on a few of her songs where she tries to cram too many words into a line. Reminds me of what Kanye used to do.
This might be the first Swift album I've ever listened to front to back. I might have done it with Evermore. I can thank the hype on this site and then the cold morning today. I liked it. Hope to give it some more attention.
Lavender Haze - 9.5 Maroon - 8.5 Anti-Hero - 7.5 Snow on the Beach - 8 You're On Your Own Kid - 6.5 Midnight Rain - 5.5 Question...? - 7 Vigilante Shit - 6.5 Bejeweled - 6.5 Labyrinth - 8.5 Karma - 8 Sweet Nothing - 6.5 Mastermind - 8 The Great War - 8 Bigger Than The Whole Sky - 8 Paris - 5 High Infidelity - 3 Glitch - 5 Would've, Could've, Should've - 6 Dear Reader - 7 This is my hottest of hot takes after a few listens. Will probably change a bit over the next month or so lol. Feels like a step back in songwriting from Folkmore. But that she took pieces of learning from those to just make a better Lover/Reputation. A bit disappointing. But I think there’s a few songs I’ll hold onto. No immediate 10s that totally lock me in like 1989 or Folklore.
Would've Could've Should've is great, but I can understand it being a way different feel from the rest of the album.
Can't say if Dear Reader is good or not yet, but there are some fun things happening in the vocal production for sure.
There's a few songs on here I really like but overall it's hitting a bit flat for me. Need to give it a few more spins
I think Lavender Haze set up some absolutely unattainable expectations for what was to come. It is an absolute jam.
