"Maroon" was the clear highlight on my first listen. Excited to spend some time with this, especially with headphones. It's certainly understated and subtle.
So many people trying to figure out which Taylor albums this does or doesn't sound like but it has so much Melodrama everywhere, some really fucking cool production here
First listen very positive, can easily tell this is going to grow on me so much the more time I have to dig in
just wrapped up first listen, agreed on how great the production is. An unsurprisingly excellent entry into the Jack Antonoff discography. Need to listen more to figure out what I think of it as a whole, it's obviously very good but first impression I felt like I noticed more lyrical lows than on folklore/evermore (and need way more time with it to find the highs). Excited to give it a lot more spins.
I enjoyed this album on my one listen through, and I’m sure I will find more to like on successive listens, but I really hope in the future she gives us an album in the vein of say, Carole King’s Tapestry, or Fleeteood Mac’s Rumors, or even Joni Mitchell’s Blue. The imagery was kind of giving that vibe and I was thinking it would be really cool for her to release an album in that style.
Just finished my first listen and damn, she killed it. Very cohesive and impressed with what she’s done here. Really into this aesthetic and the whole “no fucks given” Taylor we’re getting now. Some interesting conversations ahead as people start unpacking these lyrics. Loved this. Diving back in for a Dolby Atmos listen now.
Two listens in and this album is fucking great. The only song I was slightly let down by was "Vigilante Shit", but I have been building that song up in my head to an insane degree ever since I read the title of it, and I wanted it to be / expected a spiritual sequel to "No Body No Crime". I'll have to listen a few dozen more times to wrap my head around that one and see how I actually feel.
This is basically exactly what I wanted right now. To be clear my opinion is more based on the sonic vibe than lyrics cus my setting is making it hard to dig into the words. But I think we need a fun, pop oriented album between the re-releases. It doesn’t totally ignore folklore/evermore, but it’s a very different feeling. I’m thrilled that it’s an all Jack album. And idk I’m just rambling no real point beyond I really am happy from what I’ve heard and excited to have more quiet, private listen tomorrow. What I know for sure is we’re listening to someone that’s gonna make people say in 40 years “wow I just really wish I could’ve been there for this artists’ prime” as a 72 year old Taylor takes the stage in a sold out stadium.
Who else is listening to this high right now? It makes me really sad that some people can’t experience new music while high. My eyes feel lighter and twinklier than usual while I’m hearing Taylor swift accidentally say the f-word. I really like this so far though!
“Sweet Nothing” is so fucking Youth Lagoon, song could be on Year of Hibernation no prob. It’s basically “17”
This is immediately my favorite sounding Taylor Swift album. I heard someone namedrop Melodrama and yeah this is more of that.
