None of the songs responding to the Kardashians are good. If she had just left those off I would view Reputation in a better light.
Reputation is definitely better than Lover, that one has more stinkers on it. EDIT: Honestly I probably like Reputation more than this and Evermore too
Midnights is definitely not her best or anything, but seeing a good chunk of it live has increased my appreciation of it for sure. Mastermind in particular is really growing on me as a top tier song I hadn't considered as highly before.
Reputation is a great album about the feelings of getting into a new relationship and the insecurity and anxiety that comes with that, as well as the honeymoon phase, with some random wannabe baddie songs thrown in which aren't convincing but are still fun to sing and dance to so it's a win for me.
My wife has been so bummed because obstructed view seats in Detroit were still going for like $2k but she just scored floor seats at face value :) leaves me on baby duty but she’s the much bigger fan so I’m happy for her
Hozier. I really like the song though. I like about half of Rep but will go to bat for Lover all day. Cruel Summer, I Think He Knows, the 3 song run of Paper Rings > Cornelia Street > Death By A Thousand Cuts, THEN one of my favorite songs of hers ever in False God? Come on. Also I love it's Nice to Have a Friend, weird to single that one out as one that's not good. London Boy and ME! are bad though, no argument from me there.
can you stop posting what azealia banks thinks of taylor swift’s dating decisions i would rather not know what anyone thinks about taylor swift’s dating decisions, i’ve decided it’s none of our fucking business
I'm convinced that people who think "reputation is bad" think so because their brain connects Look What You Made Me Do as the main throughline of the album, in the same way that people who think "Lover is bad" immediately think of "Me!" as the main focal point there. Which, yes, makes total sense as those are the lead singles and their releases were memorable/etc..... but in both cases, its the rest of the album where everything truly shines.
My issue with reputation is how it's perceived as this bad girl album when in reality it's nothing like that other than 2-3 songs.
Ironically that's probably Taylor's amazing marketing kinda coming back to bite her haha, she certainly did a lot of legwork to make it be perceived that way
The bad girl bit is shallow posturing, which works in context ‘cause it’s all moody vibes, and when I have moody vibes I too enjoy a shallow bad girl bit.
I've always felt the best elements of the album are about love from both the temporary and lasting variety. It's a better love album than Lover for sure.
I want to throw out there that I actually like reputation quite a bit as well. It would rank relatively low overall, but I still like it.
yeeep The rollout kind of did a disservice to both the song and the album. Like LWYMMD is such a fun song, but it's just a bizarre first single choice for the follow up to 1989. Especially when most of the album sounds exactly like you would expect/hope 1989 + 3 years of musical and personal growth to sound. If I remember right, the pre release singles were LWYMMD -> Ready for It -> Gorgeous. Feel like the convo would have been completely different if it had been like Getaway Car -> King of My Heart -> Dress or something.
In a vacuum, and as a fan, sure this somewhat makes sense... but you need to remember, LWYMMD was an absolutely perfect shock single, and it did it's job insanely well. Everyone was talking about it, everyone. Doesn't matter how good or bad the song was, it set off a PR firestorm, countless articles and think pieces. There's no other song on the album that would have done that. She 100% picked the correct lead single.
It's also why she chose "Me!" as the first single. It was a shock single but like what happened earlier
I think I Did Something Bad would’ve had the same reaction, but the “cause she’s dead” thing is why LWYMMD got the edge.
