I think “The Man” is a pretty crucial song to where she was in her “political” journey at that time. And I think you need “Daylight” to give the album some thematic purpose. “Afterglow” as a closer, I think, doesn’t work at all. But I also like that song a lot less than a lot of people seem to. It would be my next cut, if I were taking this down to a 13-song album.
Hi as someone who absolutely cannot stand Taylor Swift's music or personality (sorry) I have a genuine question - are y'all overwhelmed at all by her output? It's impressive from the outside - 4 LPs since 2019 plus all the rerecorded stuff she's been doing. Is there a point where it's too much of a good thing? The whole thing sort of baffles me because she's genuinely popular enough to still be riding the coattails of Lover, but instead she's made 3 more records, with the two that were already released being universally acclaimed (except by me, apparently). I think it's cool to see someone at her level releasing this quantity of music, but I also wonder if at some point it's just too much content?
Mmm I wouldn’t necessarily call it overwhelmed, but I definitely haven’t been keeping up with the Taylor’s Version records or all of the additional tracks she puts out with them. But that’s arguably less about fatigue and more just a general lack of interest. I’ll never tire of the new stuff though
Not overwhelming at all, for me. I was so ready for her to steer away from making big pop albums after Lover, so getting not one but two singer/songwriter albums (in 2020, of all years) was a huge gift. And then the Taylor’s Version stuff has just been fun. I don’t personally care much for the re-recordings, but getting some album-caliber b-sides, especially from Red, was great.
Yeah I've been thrilled about it honestly. She's made some of the best music of her career over the last few years and I can't wait to hear what the new album sounds like. I wish more of my favourite artists could match this level of output.
1. Fearless (TV > original) 2. Red (original > TV) 3/4/5. folklore / evermore / reputation 6. 1989 7/8. Taylor Swift / Lover 9. Speak Now ------- And, nah, not burnt out yet. I spent a few years not being as into her as I was, but my love of her songs has been at an all time high in recent years, so I happily welcome more. Guess she'd need a real stinker to throw me off, but with how in line her thing is with my tastes lately, idk how likely that is.
1989 Folklore Red Fearless Lover Speak Now Evermore Reputation Still haven't heard the self titled and Reputation is the only one I don't love.
People who think what she has put out is overwhelming, try being a Mountain Goats or Guided by Voices fan lol
I think the only thing about all the content is that I wonder if I'll ever see some of the tracks live. I mean her shows are expensive in general so prob not lol, but at least with every album you typically get a tour where you get to hear a majority of those songs. With several albums and no tours in between I do wonder what her set lists will look like
let’s be serious, she’s nowhere near, like, king gizzard levels and fans of that band aren’t begging them to slowdown.
I tend to get overwhelmed/fatigued more when artists release less music more often. A steady drip of singles/EPs every month is way harder for me to follow/get into any sort of groove with than even 2-3 full album releases in the space of a year.
This’ll be what, an average of one new album per year since Lover? That’s not enough to give me any sort of fatigue especially given the quality of the releases. I don’t really count the TV albums since I see them largely as deluxe versions of existing albums anyway
So far with TV I pretty much listen thru once and then just keep the vault tracks, so they feel more like EPs anyway. Its just too uncanny valley for me with all the small but noticeable changes. And not even always bad changes but just not what I expect to hear after listening to the songs one way forever
For me I think it's 1989 Folklore Red Fearless Lover Evermore Speak Now Reputation S/T Although I'm starting to think Folklore could take the top spot with time
Interesting takes, I appreciate you all! I certainly think it's really cool. I primarily listen to trap music (Future, Carti, etc.) and a lot of those artists have taken on the quantity over quality approach, and personally I get a bit exhausted by it. Despite my lack of personal enjoyment I'm impressed that she's kept up a similar output that seems pretty universally acclaimed by the fans. My two cents on the rerecordings - I grew up with Taylor Swift being one of the most dominant pop acts since I was around 8 (22 now). The TV records are well-recorded and obviously high budget but they feel pretty sterile. Comparing the new version of a song like "Love Story", it doesn't feel as passionate as the original. I hear it in the backing vocals especially, they almost sound robotic.
Yeah I respect her reasoning for doing the re-recordings and the vault tracks are cool, but I’ll never listen to the TV versions over the originals
I actually prefer Fearless TV over the original but yeah Red (2012) can’t be beat. Love all the bonus tracks though and the chance to get all the records on vinyl.
