My dreams were once again haunted by endless queues and websites that wouldn't let me buy anything.

All good points though I do take slight issue with the "never been that expensive in the first place" idea. If something sells out quickly and then is going second-hand for 2-3x higher up until the day of show, that is pure indication that the show was not only priced correctly but possibly under-priced. I've been beating this drum for a while and I know no one wants to hear it but event tickets have limited supply so they are worth whatever the market will bear. What I DO think should change is more transparency ahead of time about prices and perhaps even estimated fluctuations for dynamic pricing. I think what really drives people nuts (myself included) is spending 40-45 min in these fucking queues and then coming in to find the show is 3-4x higher than you anticipated while, at the same time, having to make a quick decision about what to buy or not.

once again, how is everyone doing after the last few days? I hope everyone has stayed hydrated and had something to eat.

Hoping tomorrow goes better for those of you still trying to get tickets!

I simply think you shouldn't be allowed to resell your tickets. Full refunds available up to 24 hours before the show, but you can only return them to the point of sale and can't transfer them to another person. There are some downsides to that (makes giving tickets as gifts harder, for instance) but it's the best option for fighting scalping. IIRC, Green Day did that for the club tour they did in 2016.

But absolutely, more transparency on pricing beforehand, plus a Verified Fan process that actually keeps the number of people in the presales manageable and low. And don't put all the cities up for sale on the same day, to minimize crashes and glitches.

Honest question...is Taylor even a good live act? Haven't her live vocals always been kind of a mess or was that just unfair criticism from critics?

She's an amazing live act, yes

I think reselling in a closed loop system at certain price limitations is probably the way to go. What often isn't said is that a lot of people love the ability to leverage the resell market to make last minute decisions which would still allow for gifts. Acts have gone paperless in the past but it's definitely more logistics and, more often, it doesn't allow for these papered sell-outs (which isn't the case for this tour obviously).

I think a price cap on resale is a reasonable first step, it should be illegal to sell a $50 ticket for $200 or a $200 ticket for $600 or whatever, it would also be nice if they can do something about people hoarding tickets so shows can actually be sold out

I think especially post covid and with how many people legit can't go to shows last minute or can't buy tickets at the time of sale there is a place for the resale market, and I'm not just saying that because I can sometimes exploit it to get tickets below face

I'm fine with a resale market, but hard agree on the caps. The person selling should be able to recoup all costs (including fees/taxes), but nothing else.

Yeah, I think a closed-loop resale system would be fine, but you'd need a more scrupulous company than Ticketmaster to be in charge of it. I recognize that there is not a perfect option here, but I think what we'd gain from not having the free-for-all model we have now far outweighs what we'd lose. (I also acknowledge that I am not a person who ever has the option of last-minute decisions when it comes to live music, given that I don't live anywhere near a concert market.)

I think price caps would be hard to regulate as a matter of law. It would have to be a close-looped system -- as in, you can only resell them via Ticketmaster at certain markups, which...some big potential for problems there given that Ticketmaster already scalps their own tickets that way.

Closed-loop will only encourage more monopolistic behavior. I can't think of a good way to prevent that.

I also have a hard time believing that we'd ever see a cap on resale values. Where do you draw the line on that beyond tickets? Market conditions are market conditions. People would just as easily do it in-person rather than online.

And if you restrict transfers? No one is buying tickets. You'd need to open up a period of time before an event for transfers to occur because not everyone in your party shows up to the event at the same time.

I mean. I’d say this is quite the spectacle but the vocals aren’t phenomenal. She’s gotten to be a better singer over the years, but I wouldn’t expect Maggie Rogers, Florence, Beyoncé, Adele level of vocals from Taylor ever.

Maggie is cool and all but she's not on the level of them other three you listed or as Taylor

Maggie isn’t Adele level, but Maggie is absolutely a better singer than Taylor Swift.

I have never in my life seen Taylor sing anywhere near this level

(Also not trying to derail the thread. My apologies. Just was answering the level of her performance and vocals)

Taylor isn't a powerhouse singer but she makes up for it with how good a lyricist she is and stage presence
