I’m honestly ready to pretend like the 10-minute version of “All Too Well” never existed. I think I’ve come to the conclusion that it makes the song significantly worse.

You're an insane person, I don't even recognize the short version anymore, feels like a radio edit missing so much

 

I love All Too Well, I do not need to hear the 10 minute version ever again, the OG is perfect.

 

So much of that version feels tacked on for the purpose of making it to 10 minutes. Takes a well-considered, eloquent, strongly-paced breakup song and makes it way overwrought and overlong. I like a few of the additions, but stuff like “All I felt was shame and you held my lifeless frame” and “Did the love affair maim you too?!” honestly feel like Taylor Swift parody.

 

I think I listen to Ruston Kelly’s cover of it the most, lol.

 

The line about all his lovers staying the same age is a hall of fame callout though

 

There are definitely some solid value adds in there.

I definitely vastly prefer the 10-minute version whilst also simultaneously recognizing that it is the weaker version of the song.

Someone hit the nail on the head a while back when they said a 7-ish minute version with the great extra lines added back in woulda been perfection, but I love that we have both versions of the song now.

 

The past year has spoiled ATW for me a bit. Worst example of tiktokification I can think of

I prefer the 10 minute version now, except I’d like to cut off the repetitive ending part.

 

Okay I'm catching up on her videos and I didn't know Saracen was in one!!

 

I’m pretty sure I said this on that old site that any “10 minute version” was gonna be shit because there was it reason it got cut down.

I’ll drive more people crazy but ATW isn’t even one of her most heartbreaking or well written songs.

 

I’m pretty confident that her best songs at this point are “august” and “mirrorball”

 

“You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath” is another line from the 10M that should’ve made the original cut.

But the OG > the 10M version wrote circa 2019

 

mirrorball is 100% my favorite Taylor song, it is absolute magic
