She put it so well and she's right they still don't like Kacey Musgraves for it and I think they got mad at Carrie Underwood about gun control But she also always had pop radio
This is what I told people when they got mad at her for not speaking up. It totally is a country thing.
I was listening to this while getting ready this morning and when False God hit my girlfriend poked her head in and said “wait, I thought you were listening to Taylor what is this?” Think that’s my favorite track on this.
I’ve been processing the album for a couple of days. I hate how disconnected I feel to it. I’ve never felt this way about a Taylor album, but the only stand out to me was Cruel Summer. The rest I don’t even feel drawn to listen again. I hope it changes because I’m pretty bummed.
Interesting! I've been trying to figure out where I stand in a lot of ways because I don't connect with any of these songs save Soon You'll Be Better (see my post yesterday about my aunt's leukemia), and yet I still really immensely enjoy them and keep coming back to the album. Every Taylor album since Red has had an immediate connection to me in some way or another and this one just didn't. In a lot of ways, maybe it's because I'm nowhere near the headspace of Lover, unlike being in similar places to her (if not physically, then mentally) for the last few releases. I'm not content, in a stable relationship, fully embracing myself, etc. This is an extremely mature album and she wrote it very deftly and and I recognize that quality of this songs, but this is the most detached I've felt from Taylor in a long time. So when I approach this album, it's unlike any approach I've ever had for hers. And I'm immensely happy for her and hope some day I get into the headspace where I can embrace this album in the personal way so many of hers have been for me for years.
I'm saving the record for my long drive next weekend but am enjoying reading everyone's thoughts and it's making me more excited.
It’s Nice to Have a Friend is incredible, I would like an EP of that please Taylor. Other favorites are Cornelia St, Cruel Summer, and The Archer. Only skips for me are Soon You’ll Get Better (really jarring placement on the record) and ME! (just doesn’t jive with the rest of the album, should’ve been a bonus track).
I wish the album opener packed a punch. None of the songs on this album really work as an opener imo. Cruel Summer and The Man come kinda close
This was an interesting read. I think her feelings around the backlash of 2016 are incredibly valid. I can't even imagine what it would feel like to be mocked and dissected on such a public level and then to have all the personal life stuff happening at the same time. It's an emotional nightmare. But also like... She was never cancelled. Ppl who are cancelled don't go on to sell 1 million + copies in their first week and then go on to have one of the best selling tours of ever. imagine the lowest point of your career being what most of the top popstars could only dream as their highest point. I mean that's just a testament to Taylor's success that the scandal didn't take her down (commercially) at all
Honestly ever song on here save for the first two singles are fucking great - this is right behind Red for me
“You Need to Calm Down” fits on this record, and belongs imo. “ME!”.....is maybe her all time worst song.
