hey man quick question uhhh why did you only quote the men and not any of the 18 women talking to you about this lol just wondering haha lol
anyway every artist should own their masters and whenever this comes up i always think of John Fogerty and how he got sued for plagiarizing himself and then didn't give a fuck and played the shit he didn't own on stage at Concert Against Aids. a true legend
Sia Responds to Taylor Swift Fans Accusing Her of Using Blackface in 2011 Performance So the artist Sia seems to be supporting this Scooter guy. If this is a gender issue like some people have said, I am even more confused. The pop music world seems like it’s drawing lines in the sand. Plus they bring their fanbases with them.
Other women not having the same experience or viewpoint does not mean there isn’t or cannot be a gender issue lol. Look at how many women voted for Trump.
I feel extremely lucky to be able to hear from so many women and POCs who are able to help educate me even though they have no obligation to do so whatsoever, and I wish men receiving that education would occasionally just shut the hell up and listen+think about what's being said to them rather than be insecure and make it about themselves instead of about the actual issue.
I am just wondering if I missed Taylor Swift referring to it as a gender issue or other people have put in their sense that it was gender issue. I am asking seriously, so if there is a link or something from Taylor’s statement that’d be enough clarification for me. I am not dismissing or discounting issues in the industry that exist, and specific challenges for women. I am purely talking Taylor Swift and this specific Big Machine sale scenario.
I think you need to convey what you’re trying to say better then because literally an entire thread of people is trying to tell you how you are coming off and you’ve ignored almost all of them.
You say you're not discounting sexism in the industry but have spent all of your time in this thread dismissing/ignoring women who are telling you exactly what is happening from their own personal experiences. I'm not sure how Taylor Swift herself confirming or denying the case of sexism in this circumstance would suddenly sway your opinion since you seem pretty set on finding every scrap of information that could possibly suggest otherwise. It does not help your case that the first thing you did when you came in here was defend a problematic man in the industry and then double down on that.
Also, it's quite telling when a man will come into a thread about a female artist and dilute an entire conversation about her story and situation down to this basal argument of "is it sexism or not?"
why would anyone take your concern over industry sexism seriously when you won't even engage at all with any of the many many women in this thread talking to you about it lol
I think the whole owning masters situation can be somewhat directed at Metallica. They signed a contract that stated they owned every record they put out on Warner Bros. That label can no longer make money off that band. I'm not sure of any other major act that actual owns their entire catalog. Nowadays, labels are doing weird masters deals because they don't want to lose money on those artists. I believe Taylor's offer was a looping one. For every album she did, she would get the masters back from an old release. They would still own the masters to a handful of her releases if she signed elsewhere.
In a thread of Taylor Swift fans, saying anything opposing her point of view puts a target on you. Look at the Sia, Katy Perry, Scott Borchetta, Noah Gundersen. I’m guessing her list of feuds or fan feuds is long. Some unprovoked. Some not. People in a position of fame can also become targets sometimes. I get that this Scooter guy has mixed opinions depending on who you ask. I get that Justin Beiber has a track record of being and idiot. I get how embarrassing and mean the Kayne high jacking the stage and continued behaviours can be. I get seeing weird scenarios or artist an manager relationships we’ve heard from Kesha and I’d even say Celine Dion (even though she seemed very happy with her situation). I don’t get fans inserting their own narratives. I also don’t get why people won’t listen to other people before coming to their own conclusion. A person can be right. A person can be wrong. A person can be right on some things and wrong about another all related to the same scenario. There can be different ways to view things sometimes. This is a very public fight amongst people worth hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s interesting, but not really important in a life a death sense. I hope this scenario plays out properly, but as of right now no one did anything illegal. Big business can suck, but we all contribute to it here. The irony of an album titled Lover coming out soon is almost good enough for an Alanis Morrisette song. She was actually really cool. People are allowed to have different opinions based on their own experiences and the nice part of a discussion forming is to share opinions. It’s totally ok if you think I am 100% wrong. We can all be respectful though. I’m taking it 100% of you here think I am entirely wrong, so someone please someone start ranking favourite Taylor Swift albums and I should just back out of this thread quietly since that seems overdue. Sincerely hope for long terms artists sake though, people can work out better deals to keep their material if they want. More established bands stand a better chance.
If you are being given page after page of constructive criticism on a topic you're clearly woefully ignorant on and you start your response by implying any opposing responses are invalid because we enjoy Taylor Swift's music, nothing you say after that can be taken in good faith. Missing the point 101, kids. Take note.
serious question are you 12-14 years old? because this is how i would argue online when i was 12-14, i would just ignore all the posts that made me look bad and then post a long ass post of meaningless nonsense and think it was some kind of mic drop even though i wasn't actually engaging with the discussion in any meaningful way
I tried to convey what I’m trying to say at your request I always respectfully read polite responses.
Just for the record, I wouldn’t even call myself a Taylor Swift fan. I would go to bat for any artist when it comes to owning their masters.
