I’m glad she seems in a positive place this era but these are 2 of my least favorite songs of hers that I’ve heard :(
This feels like a spiritual successor to This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things, the background keys are super similar in the chorus
political, target ad era taylor is still very much my jam but me! is the much better song here for me
The best thing about Taylor is lyrically she can create a scene but we have been missing that in the last two singles and even if sonically the music is okay the lyrics are a step backwards for her, come off lackluster and a bit twee
The song is more or less exactly what I expected it would be after I saw the title of it. I wasn't into it on first listen, but second listen was a little better. It's better than "Me" though! I'm hoping not all of the songs are this poppy.
I think the right move at this point would have been more of a curveball single. Something more downbeat or country-leaning maybe. This song is better than “Me,” but it’s kind of in the same wheelhouse. But maybe she just doesn’t want to give too much away before the album comes out.
That's what I'm hoping. It's also interesting that these 2 singles are so far down in the tracklist. Tracks 14 and 16 out of 18.
Friendly reminder that All Too Well and 22 are on the same album so there is lots of time still for lyrical genius.
There are dumb songs that work and dumb songs that don’t. “22” is a dumb song that works splendidly. The “you” and “twenty-two” rhyme in the chorus is so gloriously gleeful. That song knows what it is and that’s why it’s fantastic.
I always thought "22" was a pretty smart song about the confusion and wonder of being a "young adult."
