“Taylor Swift didn’t sell a million in a week; is Taylor Swift over?” This will be a thinkpiece on at least a dozen sites.
It's such a bad faith argument when the fact of the matter is that even if she only sells 800k in pure sales, she's maybe one of 3 artists on planet earth who can even still pull that much in pure sales. It'll be the same as when people tried to paint the Rep tour as a massive failure waiting to happen. It's a shame, because there is an interesting way to frame this without it being a dig at Taylor (i.e. "in a world where even our top artists can only sell so much, how does the industry move forward")...but I don't trust the media and how it chooses to depict anything related to her.
Most artists need tour bundles to sell like any albums. Taylor could've easily had a tour lined up and hit a million with a bundle, but it sounds like she's setting boundaries and taking time for herself instead which is good. I've seen fairly unanimous praise for the album so I think that will help with the "flop" narrative a bit, but anti stans are gonna anti stan.
I’ve been walking down Cornelia (Ave) every morning listening to this album and idk how I didn’t connect that until now
Anyway this can’t really be considered a flop because it’s clearly exceeding expectations based on how the sales projections have gone up twice since Friday. But it won’t stop the haterz from trying
My favorite headline so far was "In First Five Days, Taylor Swift's 'Lover' Has Earned Biggest Week For Any Album Since Her Own 'Reputation' in 2017". HA! Boom. I never made this connection, but it makes sense because I love that song.
I knew it reminded me of something but I couldn’t figure out what song I had in mind. I finally had the “Aha” moment and it all made sense
“I Think He Knows” was a grower but now I can’t stop listening. That second time she says “I whisper in the dark.. where we gonna go?” is soooo good
I'm enjoying this album so far. A few songs that I don't care for, but overall it's pretty solid. Cornelia St. might be my favorite Taylor song ever.
I seriously checked the co-writes list after I heard that song the first time because I thought she might be on there.
wait, I just remembered that I went to a Kelsea show this year, she was pretty enjoyable, I wonder if she played that song EDIT: she played these, which do you like Peter Pan Dibs Legends Yeah Boy Get Over Yourself I Hate Love Songs Cowboy Take Me Away / The First Cut Is the Deepest / Oops!... I Did It Again Love Me Like You Mean It Miss Me More This Feeling
Of those, I'm especially fond of "I Hate Love Songs" and "Dibs." Beyond those, "Secondhand Smoke," "Underage," "High School," "In Between," and "End of the World" are all highlights. I actually really like both her records a lot.
