It's just unbelievable that Aaron sent the song at 9 and received a full demo 5 hours later... unreal
I woke up at 5am this morning, saw the email about the single, and immediately bought it. Didn't even think about it, haha.
Strong number 8's? Built to Spill - You in Reverse My Morning Jacket - Waterfall Spoon - They Want My Soul Weak number 8's? Death Cab for Cutie - Codes & Keys Portugal. The Man - Evil Urges Sufjan Stevens...I just couldn't figure out how to count his stuff, haha Wilco - Star Wars?
codes and keys or integrity blues gets my vote for 8th album, unless we are counting andrew mcmahons entire discography, in which case upside down flowers is up there too. i think what i've really learned in this exercise is how few bands even make it to 8 albums. i know that's a lot of albums and essentially means 15+ years at it, but i still expected more options to choose from. if only northstar had lasted this long... *sigh* def not their best album, but still really strong overall for me.
It's been gratifying to me in the last decade or so to witness a serious broadening of support for that album. Peoples' prejudices against 80s production have always irrationaly hampered its reputation.
Lot of men being discussed here, lol. If y’all have not acquainted yourselves with The Cardigans’ album “Long Gone Before Daylight,” please do so immediately.
Probably unfair to call it a weak album as their 8th, but I thought Jimmy Eat World were done after Damage. Integrity Blues by comparison felt like a rebirth
you're right, @personalmaps, that's messed up. sleater kinney - no cities to love joni - hejira Bjork - vulnicura all great. it's an unfortunate side effect of misogyny that most women aren't given the leeway to have a career long enough for 8 albums that men with half the talent are
there are also some right on the cusp. I'm sure annie clark's next one will be great. same with laura marling.
right, and then there are plenty who have dozens, like aretha, but 8 is before they really got going or past the peak
