Ughhhh. Lame click grab and also heartbreaking. So many brilliantly talented, truly insightful music writers aren’t given the time of day. Meanwhile, this garbage masked as journalism is published with zero thought or effort, it seems!
Pitchfork review is fine. Not a super interesting or deep read of the album, but I'm not offended by the score. (The Twitter thread, though, where TSwift stans are pulling out random albums that got higher scores in an effort to show that Pitchfork sucks, is wild. Someone brought out The Life of Pablo and its 9.0 rating, and I'm like "Hey, I think Pitchfork probably wishes they could take that one back, too.")
I think the score is fine. I think 8.3 BNM would have been more in line with my thinking but 8.0 is a definite P4K benchmark for albums so they like it. I’d also like to echo cutting Seven is insane. I’d also like to echo the love for “last great american dynasty”, probably the track that has grown the most for me. And now seems like the obvious second single choice imo.
They had a better track record earlier, too. Every winner from 71-91 I'm legitimately, enthusiastically a fan of.
Jill Mapes went private on Twitter but she tweeted a screen shot of a swiftie death threat she received and said she’s been getting phone calls since 1am.
Yea woof. Stans. none of them probably even read the pretty glowing review. Literally the most negative thing was seven and hoax could be trimmed. Lol.
Only thing I’m pissed about with this album cycle right now is that I have to wait to hear “the lakes”. Which rob Sheffield raved about.
Seems like Jillian is in the crosshairs a lot. Remember Grizzly Bear tweeting stuff about her very positive Painted Ruins review and I think she reviewed Lizzo as well but didn’t check and that was also a whole thing. Feel for her.
