Betty might be the least “weird” sounding song on here. It was so immediate for me whereas the rest of the album has been growing on me steadily. That’s not to say any of it is weird but idk that one seems the most accessible, save for maybe the Last Great American Dynasty.
I know she said she was thinking about Dylan, but it doesn’t sound like Dylan. Unless you’ve never heard a harmonica on anything else.
Betty vibes like her self titled for me. Especially when she holds out the "looooove youuuuuu". Takes me back.
There is absolutely nothing on this record that sounds like Dylan. I’m sorry but I don’t hear that at ALL.
If Betty sounds like Dylan I should listen to Dylan I mean regardless I know I should listen to Dylan, but still
I get the whole Tomberlin thing is shitty, but what she said in the note tweet is true. People can easily disagree with what she said, but the stans just jump all over her and attack her unnecessarily.
People should listen to Fearless. Though I generally recommend listening to as many Grammy AotY winners as you can anyway. Not usually the best album of their year, but a musically diverse and interesting bunch. Learned a lot, especially from the early years.
my mind always tries to tell me Speak Now won AotY so I’m always mildly shocked when I’m reminded it was Fearless
Just got through Betty without thinking about skipping it. 4 beers in is where that comes into play. Kidding. Maybe.
As @cshadows2887 used to say, Fearless is the pop-country Thriller. Just incredible how stacked it is.
I don't think there are any skippable songs on this album, but I will admit that I understand the desire to skip ahead from the weaker tracks on a 16 track / 1hr+ album.
I was just thinking I'd never actually listened to Fearless and then I just quickly listened to a bit of each song and could sing along to pretty much all of them. It's been a minute.
Garbage LA Time has their track rankings... The 1 being at 16 just made me not want to even read the rest of it.
That list stinks. Not because of the rankings, which are pointless. The blurbs are trash. Vernon sings "in his lower register in addition to his usual falsetto". He...never sings lead in his falsetto on this song, just harmonies and backing vox. In fact, he never sings an actual word in falsetto. What a lame click-grab.
