I have a theory that there’s a trend in music right now that you should have one last, short, simple song to end your record, and I kinda hate it.
Yeah if Betty got BNT I’d probably be saying 8.7-9.0. But how Betty of all tracks doesn’t get BNT makes me think this album probablyyyyy possibly isn’t getting BNM
I both really love this and also feel like it's more 7/8 than 9/10. Ultimately I think like most Taylor albums it would have benefited from a little tighter editing and I'm not going to be shocked if there's a critical review or two that says as much. (And generally p4k doesn't really pull punches, which kind of goes without saying.)
I just wrote 2600 words about indie music's bullshit response to this and I think my brain worms have truly taken over at this point
I agree with item number 1 but I've thought this before on other releases. then I've come around to the idea of the artist being savvy enough to know that it can be better to put your "fall album" out a couple months ahead of actual fall to give it time to catch on. it also gives time for the lay people (that's us!) time to plan the fall situations where/when we would play their music.
i think i get what you're saying. not a bad tune, just stands out in terms of style when compared with the rest of the tracks.
I analyze music more than anyone I’ve ever met, but I have to say I feel like people get way too intent on perfection with albums. What season it should be. If it’s completely stylistically cohesive. Re-doing tracklists. I dunno, man. Sometimes the variety is the fun. Sometimes the sprawl is the fun. Sometimes I want something spare and autumnal in the summer. Sometimes I want something danceable in February. Life’s too short. That said: everybody do you.
deliberately rearranging track lists always seemed strange to me because it seems like it’d be a slap in the face to the artist(s) who likely went through great pains make sure the album was as sequenced as perfectly as possible. imagine, and i’m borrowing this, if people came up with “their own versions” of to pimp a butterfly or some shit
