I Did Something Bad? Delicate? Don’t Blame Me? Getaway Car? This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things? New Years Day? You get the point
For those who aren’t huge Reputation fans, I suggest watching her concert film on Netflix. Seeing those songs live helps you really “get” the album better IMO. Best tour I’ve ever been to
Reputation is definitely not bad, but that and Lover are the albums of hers that I definitely think need some editing. There are at least two tracks on both that I skip every time.
For me personally, I just really do not enjoy the production style of Shellback. I do not enjoy it at all. It is simply not for me. Even one of the absolute best current songwriters/performers on the planet can't make it happen for me apparently, because I have tried numerous times to listen to the album and I just cannot get into it and I do not enjoy it. I end up turning it off after a handful of songs.
I had two friends today tell me they thought folklore sucks. Their exact words were why listen to Taylor attempt this sound when you can listen to someone like Iron & Wine do it better. So in conclusion, I have two new vacancies on my friends roster.
I feel like I'm going to have to make a few drinks and sit down and start the album like halfway through or something, because I just did some research (looked on Wikipedia) and a lot of the songs everyone keeps talking about seem to be on the back half...
i have become extremely burnt out on the style of max martin and anyone who came up under him in recent years
why not....listen to both? and i dont think this sounds like iron and wine much at all lol. maybe a couple bits here and there but idk that strikes me as a mega lazy comparison only employed to dismiss the record
Oh no - I was talking about reputation. folklore so far for me is one song after another where I swear it has to be the best song on the album and I am blown away by the gloriousness x16 and then it ends and I wanna put it on again.
Exactly. Although they did make me realize that the beginning of seven has some comparisons to Iron & Wine's "The Trapeze Swinger." Just like the first two lines and how she sings them. Plus she has a line about swinging from the tree. Small chance she's paying homage, but most likely just a coincidence. Love both songs regardless.
enjoyed the Stereogum write-up Review: Taylor Swift's 'folklore' Is An Indie Record Unconcerned With Being Cool
its much more believable to me that taylor swift heard an iron and wine record than a tomberlin record for inspiration (no disrespect to tomberlin intended)
I don't dislike Rep but any means, but of the three tours I've seen (Red, 1989, and Rep), Rep was my least favorite. Could just be because of how much I love those other two albums. 1989 Tour is one of my favorite shows ever, easily. Also gave this a second listen this morning. It's grown on me exponentially already. Pretty wild to hear Taylor do an entire album like this, but I'm falling in love with it quickly.
