We reach for the longest shadow

Not to bring this argument back up, but I really love Cardigan and find it works better as a first single than the last three first singles. The video is breathtaking too.

  2. let's be honest, almost any track from this would've been better than the last three first singles. I need to sit with the record more to see if I think another track would've been "better" but I agree that this was a beautiful call.

I can definitely see that! Your edit makes total sense to me. The only other explanation would be if she broke up with someone after that, but by all accounts she is still with that guy, so.

I definitely agree about her songs having multiple meanings as well.

  4. if I'm right then Scott should consider himself lucky to have such a stunning song written about him tbh

I’ve always been kind of indifferent to Taylor but I listened through this twice today and really enjoyed it. Exile, seven and Betty are my favorites. Which album of hers should I check out next?

Truly. All these songs are great, but i think exile, my tears, and hoax are extraordinary.

  7. I think Red is the storytelling twin to this one (Folklore grapples with the same feelings and stories in a grown up, removed lens) and Reputation is the Joker to Folklore's Batman - the other side of that coin, sonically and in spirit. Do with that what you will.

edit: sorry if this sounded cold or dismissive, I literally just meant I think these albums are the two I'd dig into based on this one (first Red, then Reputation) since they cover the ends of the Taylor spectrum (for me)

I’m excited to dig deeper into her other records now. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Red outside of the singles, and I know I didn’t listen to Lover. I really liked 1989 when it dropped, but I haven’t listened to it in years.

if you can get past the production, i kinda feel like reputation is the closest to this, thematically and lyrically.

I'm usually fairly indifferent to her voice but it sounds so nice on seven

  15. it's my vote for "most likely to become a cult classic" of her catalog (even amongst her fanbase)

I feel like whatever she is doing on the first part is unlike anything she’s ever done!

reputation isn't incredible but i never got why say it's EASILY her worst. stretch from getaway car to dress alone (but specifically getaway car)

there's definitely some bullshit on there, but the highlights propel it to no lower than her debut imo

Dancing with Our Hands Tied! Getaway Car! Delicate! Don’t Blame Me! LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!! All top tier TSwift!

  25. Even what I'd call rep's biggest "misses" sit a lot better with me in context. That album was a risk and I think the payoff was worth it.

    Plus, those songs live... whew.
