So what 3 songs are the trilogy from the different points of view or whatever someone said last night? Has anyone figured it out yet

this album is absolutely jam-packed with musical moments and flourishes that are absolutely magical, but I think one of my favorite lyrical moments was when she drops this bomb during invisible string:

"Cold was the steel of my axe to grind
For the boys who broke my heart
Now I send their babies presents"

I'm pretty sure I laughed out loud and did one of those "fuck yeah" punches by myself in my car. enjoyable on a bit of a more meta level than the rest of the album, but still fucking incredible.

I posted it a few pages back. On my phone or I’d go just quote it here for you.

I wish I could spin this record while making chicken tikka masala and drinking beer, but it won’t be here for 16 weeks, so I guess it’ll be Red again.

  6. I was told it's cardigan, august and betty

Although my spidey senses suspect that illicit affairs and mad woman involve the same characters but as adults and even if Taylor herself tells me I'm wrong I don't think I'll stop feeling that way

Yeah, I can’t even really believe the embarrassment of riches we’re getting in spite of everything.

Hell yeah. What are your favs so far?

I thought the whole album was sort of an exercise in this idea, not just three of the songs... Admittedly though I am very bad at hearing lyrics and I haven't had a chance to really sit with this with headphones on and hear everything she is saying.

The three characters are supposedly named after Blake and Ryan’s three daughters

Sonically I don’t think either album is off putting in the greater Discography.

there’s just no way Hayley could have released THAT personal of an album with Paramore.

again showing why the idea that this was all a calculated move by the big wigs to win over indie crowds is ridiculous. Aaron and Justin wouldn’t work with anyone or anything that isn’t one hundred percent authentic to them. that’s just the kind of musicians they are and everyone knows it

LOL FOR 18 HOURS I THOUGHT SHE WAS SINGING PANTIES BUT IT'S PENNIES

This is so good, lots of interesting directions musically and lyrically. Seems super wistful overall, lots of regret. Definitely a departure from what she’s been doing lately, but it’s not too far from stuff she’s done before. I’ve been a fan of hers since Fearless, but I think this is her most consistent record. It’s hitting me just right.

Do we think “my tears ricochet” is about Scott Borchetta/Big Machine?

Probably my new fave Taylor album and AOTY. Perfectly timed for Australian winter too I feel

i love how "the last great american dynasty" feels like an idgaf version of "the lucky one"

  23. I kinda felt that way about Hoax for reasons I can't fully explain

Interesting. I wouldn't have made that connection due to her use of "shade of blue" which has kind of carried through the last few albums and is usually attributed to a love interest. But I'd be interested to hear your reasoning if you could ever put words to it.

  25. I guess the simplest way my brain breaks it down is that she uses colors to talk about loves - and her biggest love has always been her music. BM was her gateway to that world and that kind of betrayal would absolutely read similarly to how a relationship's story would (this is my take as a songwriter). It's also not impossible she told it through that lens as a processing tool (a la The All American Rejects and "It Ends Tonight").

This is just my perspective though and obviously has nothing to do with how she actually meant it. I also tend to assume with her that multiple stories are being touched on in a lot of her songs. They're not always that 2-dimensional, ever since Red.

    edit; also the section
"You knew it still hurts underneath my scars
From when they pulled me apart
But what you did was just as dark
Darling, this was just as hard
As when they pulled me apart"

to me implies this breakdown happened after the events of Reputation. This is the biggest event I can see that fits with that timeline and narrative that would wreak this kind of emotional havoc.
