nah. they have decent taste and mostly listen to records both you and i love. but they explained it more as preferring tempo/key/time sig. changes that throw you a bit more than layers. which... i guess i get the argument while fully disagreeing haha

Ironic that this is the first album I can think of from her that has a key change...

I'm gonna be here on Tuesday and it's gonna be misty and in the high 50s and I might never leave and just go into eternity listening to this record on repeat for ever and ever.

Now that we got this dream album, I hope one day we see her rock album (like the 1989 tour version of WANEGBT)

I love the storytelling on this album, and "last great american dynasty" is such a good example of it.

I've never been a fan of Taylor Swift's music, but always recognized her talent. Nothing against her, I'm just not a huge pop music fan. I thought her Netflix documentary was pretty great, and it kind of blew me away to watch her in real time write the hook to such a huge hit like it was nothing. (Sorry, I can't remember which song it is). So, yeah, I've always thought she was a really admirable example of an artist who had a great deal of control over her sound and career trajectory.

And, that doesn't even come close to her damn near super human maturity level and business acumen. I mean, Jesus Christ, her level of restraint during the Kanye VMA fiasco was kind of incredible. What kid has that level of self control? It wasn't until the documentary where I realized just how young she was when she had to deal with that. And the body image issues she dealt with. And all the other bullshit that came with her being so famous. She's quite the inspiration.

But, yeah, since The National is my favorite band, I definitely wanted to check this album out. Listened to it and I think it's pretty great. She can basically do whatever she wants musically. Beyond impressive.
