  1. "the archer" definitely could have fit just fine on here

so I get the whole frustration of being a struggling independent artist and then Taylor just drops this and boom whatever but....did she get barred from being able to go a direction with music because she went pop??? And regardless of this record being more indie feeling or not, that was gonna happen regardless BECAUSE IT'S TAYLOR SWIFT so putting the focus on "oh but she released an INDIE album" is just.....alright then

well these days I’d consider them closer to pure pop than indie, hah

Did not think I was going to have to read shit about Taylor Swift appropriating indie rock culture today. Just wild shit.

yeah, i don't get the "indie sound" thing at all. i'm just saying it's sad that coverage works this way and it's understandable to me that more independent artists and labels would want to maintain their own space, which is already such a fraction of the total promotional landscape.

Obviously it’s a bummer that artists like Liza Anne or Katie Dey now have to compete with Taylor for coverage but like... it doesn’t matter when the album drops, it’s always going to conflict with someone else’s release. It’s too bad, but as long as mega stars like Taylor exist, that’s how it is.

I am sorry to report that I have seen at least one tweet about Taylor appropriating....Cottagecore. Please finish the song that you are listening to and never listen again, thank you.

  14. compete for coverage? the people who are stoked on those artists will still get covered. I honestly don't see how the release of this Taylor record changed the course of coverage for those artists.

like for example I've been able to promote 4 different records on my twitter today while still tweeting about Taylor - it's not hard.

  15. Any other year I think I’d be mad about all of this, but honestly I did not have “gatekeepers fill their diapers because Taylor Swift stole indie rock” on my bingo card for July this year and I can not think of a more hilarious development all things considered, especially with how incredible the record is

Idk which one you saw. I was searching Twitter for "Cocteau Twins" to make sure that my comparison wasn't completely offbase and found a Tweet about it.

I feel like the archer, lover, it’s nice to have a friend, false god, soon you’ll get better, cornelia street, death by a thousand cuts, and daylight all could fit on this record with a few tweaks

I mentioned last night but Taylor Swift really rhymed “standing in your cardigan” with “kissing in my car again”

I mean if that’s not the most satisfying thing that’s ever graced these ears....
