I’ve seen some posts about the marketing of this album is disingenuous because it’s catering to indie rock and therefore taking up space usually designated for indie rock artists. The only thing that has rubbed me wrong about this entire thing is the “collect all 8 editions” thing.....but not much different than every record having 5-10 variants, they’re just saying the quiet part out loud.

 

lol maybe that would be an argument 20-30 years ago....but its 2020, the age of streaming, music is as accessible as ever, there's space for everyone

 

honestly the only complaint that seems “fair” to me is taylor fans that wanted more pop. like, they need to get on board with her wanting to go in this direction and it’s not like there isn’t pop here or she’s abandoning pop forever. but that’s closer to valid than the other bullshit

I'd like to know which publication wasn't gonna talk about Taylor Swift but now is because her album has more subdued tones on it. lol.

 

Idk how people even have the energy to get mad at disingenuous marketing for an album that surprised dropped the same day. This wasn't like an 8 month rollout that had Taylor growing out a beard and drinking whiskey and chopping down trees. The cover is black and white and she's in the forrest.

 

And its the 2nd day of the "cycle"....so much time for her to "lift up" and give voices to other people within that space. Bon Iver has been very good about that, so has Jack soooo

I didn't care for Lover or Reputation much and thought maybe I just outgrew her songwriting. So glad to have proven myself wrong

 

its funny because 1989 was around the time the indie publications started actually covering her, and thats the album where she went full pop!

 

I swear to god people come up with the most ridiculous reasons to be mad, and I say that as someone ALWAYS MAD ONLINE.
