Maybe Taylor just picked cardigan because she really liked cardigan

That is definitely the case. And I get it! I work in news media, so I fully realize the value of being first. But it sucks that, for albums like this that publications have to scramble to cover, the best and most insightful writing often gets drowned out by the fastest writing.

Epiphany has a lot of really cool turns in the melody. I'm dumb and don't know how to say that in a better music way.

I’d describe it the same way. It starts off sounding like Celtic Woman almost and then pivots into that reverbed yelp? Just never takes the turn you expect

My biggest gripe is that most of my friends will never hear The 1 if it doesn't get radio play :crylaugh:

Meant to reply to Matt but oh well too tired to fix it.

I used to use "slow" as a negative word for music

Wonder if it’s a deliberate Dashboard Confessional reference in “Mirrorball”

  19. I'm worried you think your "it's boring" takes are better thought out than "it's slow."

Not that it's that similar, but "exile" reminds me quite a bit of "Falling Slowly" and "9 Crimes."

Also, it's verrrry early yet, but the Metacritic score is up to 94, which would put this at its #3 for the year (Fiona is obviously #1). Taylor's never had anything in the top 200.

Exile is great and will get all of the hype because it's a single and Bon Iver, but it's maybe #7 or 8 on my favorites after listening all of the way through about five times

yeah i really did not get what point they were trying to make, saying over and over again they have no problem with taylor and enjoy the national but somehow its bad she wanted to make some understated music inspired by indie and folk? its not like the sounds she's playing with are novel or brand new from just the past few years....there has been music out there that sounds like this for an extremely long time, she could have been taking influence from any number of artists across any number of decades
