suuuuuuper annoying how long we're going to have to wait for "the lakes". the fact that it isn't in my digital download of the album is criminal, especially considering how good her bonus tracks typically are.

I think “exile” would have made the best first single. Subvert expectations with JV vocals. Should have dropped that yesterday afternoon without the feature tag. What a mindfuck hype machine that would have been.

It would be a banger in pubs and coffee shops.

  7. Just finished my first listen. It's really early but this might be my favourite T Swift record yet, which is just crazy to me.

I'm def in the camp of never really listened to her outside of what I've heard on the radio. We watched her doc on Netflix a couple of weeks ago though which definitely made me more appreciative of her, and now this? I guess I'm a Taylor fan now?

This is fantastic. Exile is astonishing, and I agree I can hear it as a single.

exile could absolutely be a single in the vein of rihanna's "stay," which did extremely well

I know they're not really alike, but Shallow seems like an compelling argument too.

Nothing like “Exile” has been a hit since Adele’s last album (Bon Iver has never HAD a hit) and she had a song that stayed on the radio for like 2.5 years constantly out of “Delicate”. She didn’t pick the best song on the record, but it’s probably the most logical single pick.

well fuck me for thinking an obviously accessible ballad could do well as a single

As much as we all grumble and kvetch about her single choices (myself included), they’re usually hits. The general public doesn’t necessarily want the same things we do.

when has taylor ever picked a ballad as a lead single?

literally zero times. she picked the song closest to the pattern of singles she’s done before.

  20. I think "mirrorball" would be the best pop single. "cardigan" is an odd choice, but maybe she got the music video idea for that one specifically and just ran with it. Kinda like how she thought of the "Me" music video concept before the song was even finished.

i didnt say anything about lead single. dont really care about this argument anyway, i just think exile would do well as a single. but again fuck me for thinking that

Think he's just saying it would do well if it was a single.

According to the reaction on the internet I'm very inclined to agree..

We’re not talking lead single, it’s can be the “ballad” single of the cycle

not sure why that’s such and odd or foreign choice

I can't believe I have to wait till November to hear this on vinyl. I'm gonna play this to death before then

i don’t think she cares about what would pop off at coffee shops. her audience is much bigger than justin’s/the national’s and she needs something that will hit the biggest demographic, which she did.

it was either cardigan or august and she picked the better song.
