Picture to Burn, Our Song, and Should’ve Said No are my favorite 3. And I’ll always have a soft spot for Teardrops for being the first Taylor song I heard
Getting some late-period Country Taylor vibes from the new Cam album, out today. Jack produced some of it, too. Highly recommended to people in here.
She's mainly been a writer for other artists right? Looks like she only has one other album from 2015
I know Jack definitely produced "Classic." Apparently there's also songs co-written with Harry Styles, Sam Smith, and Avicii on this album too. Pretty cool!
I don't think she was ever a Nashville staff songwriter in the way that folks like Maren Morris, Chris Stapleton, Lori McKenna, etc. were. But I'm not as familiar with her background as others. I liked her 2015 album a fair amount at the time, and "Burning House" was a surprisingly big hit, but I think this one is a sizable step up. I think she had some label issues, which is part of the reason it took so long. "Classic" for sure. I was looking for liner notes/credits and couldn't find much yet.
Ahhh gotcha; yeah I first heard her through this cover an artist did of "Burning House", which was incredible
Unless any amazing surprise drops happen in the next couple months, this is far and away my fav album of the year. Nothing else is even remotely close unfortunately, probably the first year ever that one album has been so far ahead of the pack. But I obviously get it, COVID fucked with so many release plans
This, Dua Lipa, and Spanish Love Songs are kind of in a big fight for my top spot at the moment. Pretty steep drop off after those three for me.
Yeah Dua Lipa is Top 5 no question, I enjoyed that Spanish Love Songs album but don't remember a lot, I'll revisit for sure
It's different for everyone, but I don't think COVID drastically altered the quality of music released this year. Sure, some artists probably held off releasing albums, but Fiona Apple, Phoebe Bridgers, Waxahatchee, Soccer Mommy, Ratboys, Lomelda, etc. all released the best albums of their careers this year, and we got amazing debuts from artists such as Bartees Strange and Beach Bunny. So if anything, (at least in my opinion) we have gotten some (read: a lot of) fantastic records this year despite COVID being a thing.
Yeah, it's been my favorite music year in a long time and I can't really think of any albums that I was anticipating that were delayed significantly enough by COVID that they won't be coming out this year.
i did too! now i just need it to get to my apartment before i go visit my family for 2 months, because nobody else will be here, lol.
