Peace Epiphany Mirrorball August This is Me Trying That's my top 5. Everything else can be ranked as number 6.
This is one of those rare album that I find almost impossible to rank. Each song hits different for me every listen.
Nobody who skips epiphany gets to judge my list if anything unseats this as my AOTY, whatever it is will probably actually destroy me so there's that
Gave this a break as to not overplay it by fall, but threw it on during a rainy night over the weekend. Not sure I’ll ever get a point where I’m straight up skipping songs on this, but I’m pretty comfortable calling Illicit Affairs the weak spot for me
tbh I run around randomly bursting into "don't call me, don't call me baby" etc enough for the entire planet
hahaha. someone’s got to! I’d be lying myself if I said if that part didn’t inspire me to take dramatically long strides in rhythm while puffing my chest out into the air
I was unimpressed with the song at first but it's become one of my favorites and that whole stretch is why
"the last great american dynasty" is one of my favorite with "exile". Crazy how everyone's favorites are all over the place.
One of my TJ coworkers owns a local record shop, got a bunch of these in, and set one aside for me :’)
I think it might have been the pitchfork review that commented on how that song is peak storytelling. *chef's kiss* also how much do I have to pay joyce manor to cover "betty?" anyone know? it's perfect for them.
I think seven is my fave example of her storytelling now. The story is so vivid in my brain it's like a child coming of age film every time I listen to the song.
Seven makes me really emotional for a bunch of different personal reasons (“with Pennsylvania under me”) and nostalgia of listening to TS since Fearless. The first couple lines of her singing I absolutely *adore*, and then “I used to scream ferociously any time I wanted”. So many chills moments with that song and top it off with the storytelling. Hard to choose but might be my #1.
Listening to the new album on the ferry to Nantucket is v recommended if you ever get the chance. Great way to start the holiday weekend.
