I gotta admit, this was a pretty interesting experiment. Listening through the Dessner songs (minus the Dessner/Antonoff betty) all in a row ends up giving an overall different feel. Hard to explain, but taking out the Jack songs creates an even more soothing listen. Listening to the Jack songs back to back to back feels a bit stranger, it doesn't work as cohesively as a single listen.

Overall, the listen really proves how well this album is sequenced, everything is in it's right place

I noticed while listening last night that all the jack songs are in a row (except seven is slipped in the middle of it)

So definitely ordered another copy of the album on vinyl as well as the two singles.

EDIT: This is setting a bad precedent for me. I’ve never owned two copies of the same album on vinyl.

I own two copies of God’s Favorite Customer. That’s it, but probably not for long tbh.

Have we talked about this video of her playing "Better Man" at the Bluebird, or the rumors that she'll do a studio recording of it as part of the re-recording project?

I'd love for all the side songs, deluxe tracks, etc. to get the re-recording treatment.

I had the realization yesterday that despite owning 7 of the 8 albums on vinyl (missing Lover), Taylor's gonna rob me blind when she sells the re-recorded box set.

I always thought it was weird that you could order Red from Papa John's. Didn't know that Papa was the one who ran her record label then. Makes more sense now.

I've finally gotten around to this album a week later as I've been doing a dive into her discography for the first time ever. When I heard Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner were involved on here I was going to just listen to this album but didn't do that as I never gave her music a deeper listen to apart from her singles.

Started from Fearless and was just blown away constantly, each album she just kept evolving and it was amazing listening to that. Only album that I don't fully love was Reputation as it felt too jarring after 1989 but it still has some wonderful songs on there. Folklore is probably my third favourite after 1989 and Red but what a discography she has! Need to listen to the self titled at some point too but man, it's been a fun week going through all her albums!

I cannot tell you how refreshing of a reaction this is. Welcome!

(and for anyone who hasn’t done a deep dive into her discography before, I put together a handy playlist matching songs from throughout her career thematically and lyrically for each song on Folklore and it’s on the front page of the site)

Thank you! Yeah, I've always been quite stubborn when I was younger when it came to pop music but the past few years I've been trying to listen to more of it because life's too short and the music is fun! How does Taylor make such good openers and closers every time though? She don't miss!

Reputation is the only one I don't own but that's because I don't like picture discs. One day I'll splurge on the orange variant.

Think she still has a bit a ways to go before getting there, but I can absolutely get on board with that being the case towards the end of her career. She’s one of the greats

It's not Swift's music is as good as Springsteen's, it's she is to her generation what Springsteen was to his.

That’s what I was referring to. There were comparisons of folklore to Nebraska in terms of their album trajectories, but it’s hard to have that perspective of an artists cultural impact while you’re in the midst of it. Springsteen had a legacy that solidified later in his career, and I think folklore plays a significant role in solidifying TS’s impact, in that “people grudgingly acknowledging her songwriting prowess.” As the article states.

granted, others would have better and more insightful things to say because I know there’s quite a few Springsteen historians here that know significantly more than I do.
