This week’s NYT Popcast is a great discussion on folklore. They don’t all love it, but they all like different things about it (and Joe capes for us super fans so it’s all good). Popcast: Taylor Swift’s ‘Folklore’: Let’s Discuss on Apple Podcasts
it is kinda wild to me how many people objectively watch the bachelor (and, like, just look at her follower count to see how many people follow her specifically) but also how many people just know nothing about it
I have watched one episode of the Bachelorette and it’s all I could take. I’m always amazed at how much of my timeline it fills while airing though.
That bias tool is cool and my results seem pretty accurate (I swapped one or two things). I’m sure it’d change each time though - I really love every single track. More and more likely this ends up being my AOTY which I would never have imagined as a possibility lol Seven The last great American dynasty Mad woman Invisible string Epiphany Betty This is me trying Illicit affairs Exile Mirrorball August Cardigan My tears ricochet The 1 Peace Hoax
Ranking this record is impossible. “exile” has probably fallen the most for me, but I still love it. “Betty” is still the one for me off this record and I think it’s an all timer. The bottom tier are the ones I would trim, gun to my head, but I still believe they are very good songs. It’s a great album. betty august the last great american dynasty _________ illicit affairs invisible string mirrorball epiphany peace _________ the 1 exile seven this is me trying cardigan ________ hoax my tears ricochet mad woman
exile betty this is me trying the 1 invisible string my tears ricochet peace cardigan mirrorball seven august epiphany the last great american dynasty mad woman illicit affairs hoax or so the bias sorter tells me, it still seems far too early to be doing this sort of ranking for me with this album but i'm avoiding working
In the last couple years, I've watched pretty much every new season of the Bachelor and all its spinoffs, including the non-American versions. It's brainless fun haha.
I feel bad for having ricochet so low because the “and I still talk to you” and the last minute are a couple of my favorite moments on the album but...ALL OF THIS IS GOOD
I think is a good song but it’s pretty solidly the weakest song here imo. It features a quirk in her songwriting that she’s deployed a couple times (I can’t think of them off the top of my head). It’s like this backup commentary voice that is just nails on a chalkboard for me. “And there’s nothing like a mad woman (what a shame she went mad) No one like a a mad woman (you made her like that)” it’s nitpicky but it takes me out of the song.
It's Wikipedia so take this with a grain of salt but it's showing Exile as the next single. Definitely going to win the "record of the year" grammy. Remember this post.
That tool is awesome! Without it, I don't think I'd have a chance at putting a ranking together tbh. the 1 cardigan the last great american dynasty exile seven august invisible string mirrorball betty peace this is me trying my tears ricochet mad woman illicit affairs epiphany hoax
Taylor reminds me of people like Ben Gibbard and Justin Vernon, where I just love their voice in a minimalist setting, especially in their more story like songs.
mirrorball > betty > invisible string > epiphany > exile > the 1 > august > cardigan > hoax > peace > mad woman > seven > illicit affairs > my tears ricochet > the last great american dynasty > this is me trying
the last great american dynasty reminds me of the great gatsby, i can very easily picture the story that song tells
This was my thought exactly. Some lines from The 1 as well (“Roaring 20s throwing pennies in the pool”)
I can see folklore taking aoty honestly. I definitely expect more grammy recognition this year. Would be funny if she sweeps but doesn't show up
