Emailed customer service in hopes to get a response on my merch. apparently the “ever and evermore” hoody is very popular and is delayed. One of the folklore t shirts is in stock but is locked in to ship with the hoody. The representative said it should be another 2-3 weeks. Perfect timing for me in Southern California. Not gonna cancel since I will be wearing this come December.
i would have held on to that ticket until we both died of old age the taylor swift group chat is... not doing well at the moment
OMG I saw a tiktok where this guy said that his Willow sweatshirt turned his skin green so I looked at the button up I wore underneath my Willow shirt and it turned that white shirt green
She's right and that line of dialogue is bad and sexist but to go after something so minute feels weirdly beneath her and now, of course, swifties on all social media are being just as harmful/sexist as the original joke was to anyone who comments on it.
Also doesn't really feel right to go after Netflix. Standing for artistic freedom and then also call for censorship?
All due respect to Taylor, but I don’t think Netflix is combing through every script it greenlights to veto jokes that might be offensive to people it has worked with in the past.
Genuine question, not trying to spark fury at all, how is it sexist? I'm just thinking that you could easily flip the line and use a male who had a lot of partners as the butt of the joke too.
Like you COULD, but I think the sexism argument is that you usually wouldn’t. I feel like women get judged more harshly based on who/how much they date, whereas men usually get a pass. I mostly agree with Taylor’s argument, but the stuff about Netflix like... turning on her or whatever does strike me as kind of weird.
I feel like it's not exactly the line itself that's sexist -- it's just saying that both the character and Taylor have both had a lot of partners/relationships -- but it is a cheap and easy dig using Taylor as a shorthand because the media has treated her as someone who has had a lot of partners when really if she wasn't as magnified and scrutinized as she is, it's not really that many. Like, yes, you could basically have just said "you go through guys like Adam Duritz/John Mayer/Don Johnson go through women" but because of how Taylor has been treated for dating a fairly average amount of men it is just feeding into that narrative.
Not to mention the whole "Taylor Swift goes through guys" style of joke is just... very weak writing. And it's personally offensive to someone in a long-term committed relationship.
That show and bad joke is going to get way more viewers than it ever would have if she had not reprimanded it.
Counterpoint: It was the number one show on Netflix over the weekend, and she should absolutely speak up about double standard sexist “jokes.”
the show is also getting shit for numerous poor taste jokes, not just ones at the expense of a huge star. i wouldn’t be so quick to jump to the writing room’s defense
That's barely a counterpoint to anything anyone has said. The problem is she has no control over what her fans do -- whether or not that's her fault is debatable, I don't really think it is but I also don't really think she's tried -- and they can be rabid.
Thanks all. Just to be clear, I wasn't trying to defend the joke at all. Regardless of the target, I agree it's very weak. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. The double standard on promiscuity is lame.
