listen reputation was my favorite TS album before folklore/evermore came out, and i love dress and getaway car a ton, but... i think those songs sound like Jack playing with some of his new tricks more than really meshing with Tay's best gifts. the archer is great, but when my tears ricochet came out i realized he could've done it better.
I first tried listening in 2014 because they were playing Riot Fest. Tried with Trouble Will Find Me that time. I tried again in 2017 with Sleep Well Beast, thinking maybe I'd get it more since I was a little older and my taste had changed quite a bit. That didn't do it, and I think I also listened to the Boxer that year when it turned 10. I tried again this year after Folklore - I was told by a friend High Violet might do it. But do it, it did not. I'll check in again in 2023.

You’re all gonna be so bummed after the bonus tracks come out tomorrow and ruin all your folkmore track lists haha
Matt Berninger’s solo album from this year is, albeit less rewarding, more instantly accessible than a lot of The Nationals recent work
Two or three of my favorite TN songs are on Alligator but I struggle to get through the whole thing when I listen to it. My scolding hot take is that I’d choose Sad Songs before I’d choose Alligator
I've heard Alligator a few times and love Mr November, so I should definitely get round to fully exploring the national eventually.
while i absolutely agree with this take, the packaging for the deluxe vinyl version of Serpentine Prison is the nicest record packaging i've ever seen.
and I agree with that! Additionally, the 6 bonus songs on the deluxe vinyl are really good too. The first track on the bonus disc actually reminds me of Alligator-era Berninger (I know it’s a cover)
for real lol. i love the band and even like el vy. those songs popped up on a solo album for a reason lol
My girlfriend didn’t like The National/thought they were boring but I Am Easy To Find was a gateway. All those additional female vocals helped her enjoy Matt’s voice more and now she’ll even listen to some of their albums without me putting it on first haha. If his (great) voice is a barrier for you, that album might help.
i don’t disagree, but in terms of song structures and production it’s a lot more straightforward than most National albums. The National is one of my top 3 or so favorite bands, so wasn’t trying to imply that the solo album is better than their records. I digress though as this isn’t a National thread. Glad I could get a few people to LOL at my opinion.
I love I am easy to find even though I know a lot of the national fans aren’t crazy about it. I do agree it might be the best starting point for Taylor Swift fans though.
from July, at least one of the BRM songs ended up here, I wonder how many other tracks on this list became evermore songs
Omg Madfit released an Evermore workout video and I'm so excited but such a dork because I had to stop watching her insta stories because I didn't want exercise "spoilers" because I want the workout choreography to be a surprise!
