Said it on Kimmel, apparently: Taylor Swift Addresses Rumors of Potential New Album 'Woodvale' | Hollywood Reporter
Love Sam, one of their best no question. Nailed it. And I had 7.9 pegged in the back of my mind in context with their folklore review. agree begin time with the Red comparisons.
The best songs on Lover are all pop gems. “Cruel Summer” is her all time best song in my opinion, and then there’s “Death by a Thousand Cuts”, “Paper Rings”, “I Think He Knows”, “Cornelia Street”....and I’m leaving off like 6 more. It’s her strongest record at the tip top, some real clunkers at the bottom unfortunately.
Justice for Cruel Summer. False God is also next level stuff. Also I love It's Nice to Have A Friend. It's so simple, but everything about it is perfect to me. I think Lover is incredibly underrated.
The bevy of great songs she has at this point is insane. I was reading through Steven Hyden’s Top 100 Beatles songs yesterday and it’s just wild (to no ones fault except The Beatles for being so incredible) what songs can’t even fit on the list. Taylor’s list will be like that one day, and it’s rapidly approaching.
Pitchfork review was good! Hopefully the stans don't lose their shit at the 7.9 and actually read the words.
The Archer is the fucking jam. I wish the back half of that album had anything truly great beyond False God, but the whole thing really falls down a notch after Death by a Thousand Cuts (which tbh in itself I like a decent bit less than y'all it seems). I listened to Folklore into this this morning and got halfway through this. Coming around to more definitively saying this one's doing it for me more.
Me! would definitely be near the bottom. I remember hearing it and thinking “fuck, I’m gonna hate this album.” Thank god it was a red herring and Lover is fantastic overall.
Given some distance, I'm now pretty confident calling it my least favorite song she's ever been a part of.
idk if it'd top my list but it's definitely up there for me also out of her last four albums I like Lover the most
Lover is an album I definitely liked more than I might have otherwise because it came after Reputation, but also one that I like less in retrospect after these two albums. Listening back to it a few times recently, I still think it’s mostly very good, but the folklore/evermore era has kind of laid bare how much I prefer her in full singer/songwriter mode to pop star mode. These new albums are so much more interesting to me lyrically.
