Haha, I know I'm a cynical bastard about list season, I'm sorry. I'm just glad we haven't published ours yet so I can include this. Last year, my list was shifting up until I finalized it around Christmastime; I personally like having the extra time, though I know why publications want to get everything done and squared away before the holidays. Yeah, I was not ready for that one at all, having not read Taylor's foreward beforehand.
Listened to this again while on a long drive tonight, and it really struck me how incredible of a storyteller she is. Listening while driving really allowed me to pay more attention to the lyrics, and I felt like I was listening to movie after movie of stories and tales, all backed by music that hit me even harder this time around. Big takeaway is I think I like this more now than "folklore", even though I think the peaks on "folklore" were a tad higher; "evermore" feels more consistent all the way through. Beautiful song after beautiful song. Just a gorgeous piece of art all around
Im new to this forum. Just registred today after this surprise drop. Folklore was the first Taylor Swift album i ve ever heard and it became my pandemic apocalipse soundtrack instantly. Absolutely love it. And now evermore drops and im just listening to it and it is...amazing? Im kind of shocked, im an old millenial (38) that mostly listens to rock or alternative rock from the 90s and before (Radiohead and Bowie are my faves). I had no idea Taylor swift had all of this in her. Im kinda shocked and wanna share with people that are also appreciating these two albums
Honestly it’s been a year on that front. “Ghosts” and “I’ll See You in My Dreams” already kicked me in the heart
Thanks for the welcome! I just heard tolerate it followed by no body no crime and im loving this. This album is too good. Im not even halfway through. But damn.
Yep. Lots of Letter to You. There's aa song called "Sunday Drive" on the new Brett Eldredge album that I was listening to a ton around when my grandma passed and that's also on the "cry every time I hear it” list.
We bought the folklore vinyl once it went on sale forever ago and I just found out my fiancé totally forgot we bought it lol. She’s gonna love it under the tree along with a note I also bought her evermore!
Love reading Tom Breihan. Great review. Though I disagree with his takes on “Coney Island” and “No Body, No Crime” Review: Taylor Swift Burrows Deeper Into Sepia-Toned Mood Music On 'evermore'
I take Matt’s voice for granted because it’s been bouncing around my head and bedroom and car for 15 years. It is truly one of the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard. I felt Lana del Rey when she said “I think about his voice, a lot”.
“The knife cuts both ways If the shoe fits walk in it ‘Til your high heels break” such a great throwback T Swift lyric and delivery.
Antonoff had a hand in most of my favorite folklore songs, so I definitely get missing him with his reduced presence here. But I also think he brought in most of the late summertime touches on that album that stop it from being just an autumn record. Dessner and Taylor really nail that chillier aesthetic, which is central to why this album works as well as it does.
I love how Jack and Taylor work together and thought his absence would be super noticeable when I looked at the credits while starting my first listen. In reality, I'd miss him much more if his songs were removed from Folklore than I do on this. There's a brightness and a pop edge Dessner brings here that he largely avoided on Folklore, and it fills in most of the Jack gaps. The ones he doesn't (the driving kick and bombastic singalongs) we don't really need more of - Gold Rush fills that hole nicely, and too much of that would be a fundamentally different record.
Can't get into this like I did with Folklore. I like it but it just makes me want to revisit Folklore more.
I've listened to this three times now. I think overall folklore is the better album, but evermore might have some higher highs. But with folklore I can't think of a single song I'd wanna cut, whereas with evermore there are definitely a few. Sounds like I'm in the minority but I really don't get anything out of Champagne Problems, Happiness or Cowboy Like Me. Also not feeling Dorothea, but it sounds like a lot of people feel the same way. Album highlights for me are definitely Long Story Short, Evermore, No Body No Crime and Ivy.
Taylor Swift - evermore (CD) According to Target, the deluxe CD comes out next Friday, the 18th. Gimme those bonus tracks!
