Her using her higher register for the chorus of Willow then coming back with the lower register at the end is hnnggghhhh
Idk man I loooove the contrast between Taylor and Justin. Never would have guessed they would fit so well together.
The No Body, No Crime vibe is definitely needed in between Tolerate it and Happiness, those songs are emotional wrecks.
First half feels a bit all over, back half is full of repeat listens. Evermore with JV is everything. Love her singing with Matt. She's all in on this sound. Recorded at Long Pond, even more collaborators from the BI and National worlds. I love it.
“My mind turns your life into folklore” So Taylor’s almost definitely showing up on the Big Red Machine album, yeah? As a child of divorce, Happiness just broke me. Marjorie reminded me way too much of the loss of my own grandmother. And “Evermore” oh god I definitely needed that here at the end of this miserable goddamn year. “Hey December Guess I’m feeling unmoored” Well hell yeah. “I rewind the tape but all it does is pause On the very moment all was lost” Helloooooo depression, it’s me your old friend.
Only listened once so far but it hits the same vibe that I loved about Folklore. I was never a Taylor fan coming into the year and that album is probably my #2 of the year. Standouts on first listen are the three collaborations and really everything from Coney Island on. Credit to Taylor for having the courage to try something so different then doubling down on it. And for working with a bunch of awesome musicians who most pop music fans don't know.
I fell asleep pretty quickly after my first listen and def need to sit with it a bit more but I am just feeling so damn blessed that we got both of these albums in a year where we all really needed something to be excited about. Quarantine queen.
I've only listened to it once. My first impression is that folklore is more immediately gratifying. This one may have some legs though.
