This record and the new Now, Now record are fundamentally different and cater to different demographics. Of course people will prefer one over the other - it's natural to have preferences that align with your tastes. Listened to the new track, and I think it's the weakest out of the singles. As for the S/T, I only listen to The Ring. Out of the Garden is better when consumed as an album instead of singular songs. (That being said, Joey, The Glow, and Bed Case are the songs I tend to revisit.) Birthday Candles should have been on the record. Has anyone listened to Capes? I've yet to honestly attempt a full listen.
Capes is good but it’s really different from her other stuff. It’s a pretty quick listen so I’d check it out!
So I’m a big dummy and didn’t realize they sent the download code with the shipping notification lol. Guess I’ll get to hear this when I get home later
my record came in while i was at work and now the mgmt office closed before i could get home and pick it up :( I HAVE TO WAIT A WHOLE 13 HOURS, so rude
Yeah I was staring at mine for a good few minutes after opening last night, really is a beaut. Now I just need to find a cassette player for that acoustic tape, hah. Did not think that through when buying it.
This is my first experience of Tancred. I made a note to get this album after I saw she toured with Julien Baker a couple of months back and I thought I might like it. I've listened a couple of times this morning and my first impressions are: - it was hard to get into it on the first listen but really enjoyed it on every subsequent listen - love the vocals - the vibe and overall sound is pretty fun in places - I need to dive more into the lyrics
Queen of New York was my favorite single prior to release. I'm gonna spin it a bunch more today and give a better thought-opinion later. Right now (2 full listen throughs) I really like Apple Tree Girl, Hot Star, Just You, Queen of New York, and Reviews. The biggest compliment I can give right now is that I didn't want to turn it off - something I can't normally say about any new music.
My biggest bleh about Tancred is the overly metaphorical lyrics, which I feel she dials back a bit on this release.
I was a little underwhelmed by this album. There are definitely some stand outs on there, but it's not something that instantly grabbed me.
