This is where I’m at still but I’m actually just starting to get more frustrated by the album than I am disappointed BECAUSE of those highs.I know we kind of already agreed on that a few days back but it’s pretty apparent to me there’s still some of his initial charm present here at points, it’s just those moments are not connected enough/are happening in different genres essentially. That and the fact lyrically this is a bigger drop off than I feel is being discussed, I get his lyrics weren’t what was defining his sound or success compared to other elements, but the regression here is bothering me more and more as there’s nothing to really relate to
the late Tame songs that nobody likes just have bad pacing and complete lack hooks and less songwriting. now he only turns the songwriting on for a handful of tracks. maybe hes just getting nerdy satisfaction out of creating those songs from a production standpoint. maybe hes like “i just have to commit this rare compressor being slammed by this kick to new old stock tape really bad”. but alot of listeners arent getting much out of that obviously. some of these songs sound like the kind of remixed house music you hear in the dressing room at malls. some of its endearing when theyve got a hook like “old ways” and the rest of its completely forgettable and has been done a whole lot before, that genre has endless output, no ones even archiving it because its disposability.
lol so they are basically adding a feature already successfully being used by multiple other prominent sites ? Too little too late, Algernon review and that writer are maybe the only good things left about Pitchfork, I’d maybe consider taking them seriously if they got some decent Hip Hop writers who are actually aware of what’s going on in the current era
I will preface this by saying I still have a chunk of these songs in current rotation but I finally listened to Mirrors, and yeah I see what you were saying instantly lol right up my alley, giving me what I like out of Sabrina but darker and obviously not 10000 mashups/samples
Just got back home from the Tame Impala concert at Barclays. Absolute trip. He opened with Apocalypse Dreams which was a song I was terrified would get cut in place of Deadbeat tracks. Other than a shocking lack of Slow Rush tracks, it was pretty well balanced. I thought the live version of Obsolete was awesome. We also got Alter Ego which, as a relatively newer Tame Impala fan, was pretty awesome to hear live. Also went through Neverender which ripped. The in the round stage setup is...fine, I guess. You have to be a compelling live performer to truly utilize the space (Ala Harry Styles), and I don't think Kevin is really exactly that. There's a great moment where he utilizes the B-Stage for Ethereal Connection and Not My World where it looks like he was in his own little world and we as an audience got a glimpse into it, but I do wish it could've been utilized better. There are a lot of new things Kevin is doing, but there are a lot of familiar moments in the set with regards to song intros and outros. It's a great mix of everything, and it was a fantastic time. Hope they announce more dates so more people can go.
kind of the same feel, I was at the show as well. It felt like a rather minimal production for them, didn’t really feel like the kickoff of a new era. the b-stage stuff was cool but reallyyyyyy lacked when compared to what NIN just did with a similar setup on their own tour. in fact, the entire setup felt ripped from NIN, essentially using the same lighting fence/screen that NIN used in Tension and Lights in the Sky tours.
Awesome show last night. We got a bonus intro video due to it being Halloween and the band all dressing up as Kevin himself.
Nah, I actually value my time and don't wanna spend two hours listening to a washed-up narcissist who peaked twenty years ago. It's not so much I find it bad, just crushingly disappointing after I thought landing a triple whammy after Currents and TSR would be the easiest thing in the world for him.
