I got into Tame in college. Watched the "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" music video many times when I was stoned

    Got a light?

These album is pretty good for me at this point, that run from track 6 to 9 is my fav, but even 3 through 9 are all pretty nice, Oblivion slowly growing. I will say I became a fan during TSR era but idk, taking away that initial letdown after 5 years, previous peaks, etc, the album settled into a place I can listen to it as its own thing. It’s often simple, more hypnotic than I initially gave credit for (it’s just darker as opposed to the happiness of DJ Sabrina’s hypnotic moments), it felt uninspired initially but I’m already making emotional connections with Piece of Heaven as I go through my day to day, feels like that’s my favorite because it kind of gives me “On Track” and “One More Hour” vibes but for some reason the basic clap coming in and the ending, that’s really a great blend of his last stuff and the more straight up house tracks, album would be a lot better/cohesive if he decided to do more of a balanced approach I feel like. Either make an album in the vein of Dracula, Loser, Piece of Heaven, or go full Ethereal Connection, Not My World, End of Summer.

    idk man

I'm more annoyed they gave Militarie Gun a 6.1 tbh.

A second listen made this album a little more enjoyable but overall I'm not with what Kevin's got going on. Most of what we're hearing feels like it could've been made in five weeks and not five years. At the end of the day, it's fine, and I'm really excited to see the guy live as I feel a lot of these songs will come alive then but this will not be the album I listen to when I want my Tame Impala fix.

  6. My buddy said "the highs are too high" for it to be that bad and I agree - when he's on, he's still on ("Dracula" chorus hasn't left me head in a week). And the bad stuff isn't so much bad as it is shockingly kind of bland. This would be closer to a 6 or 6.5 for me as of right now

  7. Yeah, not a fan of that review, and I'm not saying that because of the score.

It's a 5/10 at the absolute best from someone whose music I've loved since I came on board with Lonerism. Anodyne and shockingly dull. 'One of the emptiest, most nothing beats of the year' - if Sam didn't specify Not My World it could have been any song on this record. Car crash album I dislike even more in hindsight. The Slow Rush went in the right direction with similar ingredients.

Idk about all that, bon iver got a high score, panda bear got BNM (more 00s but still), perfume genius got a high score, youth lagoon got a good score, I think maybe this album just blows

Ya, this isn’t it. Not for a 5 year wait. Bland is an apt description.
Some riffs are cool but the overall picture is meh for me.

the rhymes and flow are painfully uninspired

I'm in the minority but I like this album, I think it works and it's not THAT radical of a departure from his previous than most people think. I can totally understand old-school fans not liking it but I've been enjoying and looking forward to seeing them on Halloween.

Alright yea by far his worst album. It's not as dreadful as giving it something like a 2 but I suppose the expectations of his prior work and how disappointing the album is could make it sink that low for some. There's flashes of some budding potential that are just...not really acted on it feels. It's so odd how someone like Kevin, known for how intricate and in-depth he goes with his production, just makes it so one note for so much of this album. Maybe that was the point in a sense, to challenge himself to not be as hyper-fixated with it and just let it chill/flow. But it just doesn't hit.

Obsolete was a non-single highlight for me, probably the only one. Not sure why, that one just felt like it had a bit more going on compared to most of the rest of the album.

I personally would not like this even if we didn’t have his prior work to go off of for what he’s capable of

Oh I wasn't saying you couldn't, just that I could see how that could affect for some people. Because yea regardless of his prior work I still wouldn't really care too much for this

It does affect it for some people and I think it should. Your prior work will always be considered when you release something new. I’m sure Kevin knew this. Makes it more of a shame he made an album I’d dislike even if it was some unknowns first record
