Piece of Heaven is a pretty song, a lot of this works well playing while you are doing something else, it’s not an immersive album esp by his standards but I like that one, Obselete while already a fav is feeling like it’s gonna grow on me every time like Dracula did. Ethereal Connection is the superior of the longer songs, kinda a cool one too
The Slow Rush was when I first became a listener so that might be why I’m biased, but The Slow Rush is best for me, Currents, haven’t heard enough of the older ones (shameful I know)
Man, this album… like it’s not that bad at all but it’s disappointing though and that sucks, especially considering how long I waited for this.
Take Dracula, Loser, see you on Monday, obsolete, and piece of heaven…that should’ve been one EP and the remainder a more cohesive EDM EP released under Tame Impala Soundsystem like he billed those Covid-era DJ sets.
yeah the long gap most definitely hurt this one, sounds like the kinda record youd put out 2 years after your last, not fuckin 5 lmao always been more casual on tame than anything else but all their other albums at least have songs i really dig on them. this one did nothing for me tho
Piece of Heaven is becoming one of my favs, I think it’s easy to compare artists work to their other stuff, but not all his stuff needs to be complex/layered/crazy. I’d love if there was more on the album but a song like this just makes me feel so relaxed, then Dracula and Obsolete are just groovy af. A few of the others are just average/semi enjoyable, I’d say No Reply is the only actually bad song if looking at this album without any comparing
Yeah no I spent nearly an hour with this today and it's the most disappointing album of 2025 for me. Absolutely no sauce, nothing about his music that I love, full of lyrical clunkers he's not making good enough music to actually sell. Genuinely glad I didn't preorder this one. Huuuge miss.
i feel so alone in the fact that i love this record lmao. after slow rush i really just didn't need another tame impala record with that same sort of sound from the last two. so for him to just shift in a different direction and explore a more minimal landscape with hints of house/disco music is absolutely hitting for me. especially as a fall album -- i think the lofi sound of the beats, the background noise, it's imperfections, all work together to make something...cozy? warm? chill? but also dancey and fun? reminds me of some of the work on 1975's noacf which i also loved.
also man, i have zero problem with the family guy line lol. i like quirkiness in songs, where the lyrics don't need to be poetic and can just be a little cute for cutes sake. i think the full lyric when you add in the "on a friday night, on a rogue website, when i should be out with some friends of mine" paints a perfect picture. also i'm very much a casual tame impala fan -- i love currents, thought slow rush was pretty good, so i'm not one that would be some sort of stan apologist for kevin but i truly love this album and everyone else's displeasure in it is making me feel like i'm crazy.
yeah i was never super into tame impala prior to currents -- that's the one that grabbed me and remains one of my favorite albums of all time. i think at that time i was just way more into the synth sound. i've never really given too much attention to the first two, maybe i'll try again.
was kind of implying how there seem to be a post-currents and pre-currents schism in the fan base with most agreeing currents was the peak.
I got into Tame with Currents, actually specifically because of Rihanna covering New Person, Same Old Mistakes on Anti lol and then going back to Currents. Then I went back to Innerspeaker and Lonerism. So I definitely have more of an attachment to Currents but the first two really are their own psychedelic experiences too. I haven't gotten around to this new one yet, very curious to see how I feel about it
I got more out of this on second listen, but I think it benefits from being played loud and at night versus on headphones on my morning commute.
