Tame Impala’s fifth full-length album, Deadbeat, available on CD. On it, Parker sculpts a collection of wickedly potent club-psych explorations as a vehicle for some of his most direct, brain-wormy songwriting to date, recasting Tame Impala as a kind of future primitive rave act in the process. Deadbeat sounds like the work of an artist with a leveled up mastery and bristles with a revitalized energy for experimentation. 12 songs crafted with a newfound embrace of spontaneity for the renowned perfectionist. How that manifests is a distinct minimalism and crunch to many of the tracks, with a clutch of crucial details, timbres and textures that add an ineffably new dimension to the sound, as well as a richer, more playful vocal range than ever.
Sounds like it could be a cool evolution, the little clip on insta in the post before the announcement sounded much better than End of Summer but in that vein, Loser is groovy and growing on me, pretty solid but still not super interesting for his standards
IT WAS THE FUCKING CLOSER THE WHOLE TIME AUGH Hate that, wonder if it works better in album context tho
No, but it might have something to do with his own dad, whom he was estranged from and the subject of the song "Posthumous Forgiveness". Unsure of the correlation with this album title though, since that song was half about being upset over his father's actions while he was alive, and the other half about how he wished they'd had more time together. It could be a play on that term, or something else.
Aw damn, I’m excited for this. Life was very different for me when The Slow Rush dropped, listened to that album a bit during the worst of 2020 looking back on it.
Definitely looking forward to this but I can't lie my expectations got a complete reset with how lackluster these two singles have been
cautiously optimistic. i had a dream about a week ago that Kevin released the album and didn't even include End of Summer on it due to the reception. but i'm sure it works better as a closer.
Grayson Haver Currin interviewed KP for GQ. Excited to read this later. The Anxious Return of Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker
I feel the same way. I was really going through it when that album dropped and it's hard to revisit. And the first single has really grown on me. After reading up on where he's coming form on this album, I'm very much looking forward to it. big 180 from my first take on all this.
i feel like cut copy already did this sound in a much more interesting way. id love to see a return to a more psych vibe.
Just got around to Dracula…this sucks. First time I’ve not been excited for a Tame release…none of this is very exciting. We’re never getting live drums again are we?
Lol, "End of the Summer" has grown on me exponentially, probably my favorite at this point. Cannot tell if "Dracula" is painfully corny or slaps or both. The Dracula laugh in the background is insane. Not often we get a new novelty Halloween song.
Dracula is my favourite of the singles, it rules. End of Summer suffers from bad execution, genuinely think it could have been one of his best ever if it just didn't sound so... limp?
