idk, part of what freaks me out about Hereditary is that there's nothing supernatural going on until the verrrry end, which means everything leading up to that was just real people manipulating a family to inevitably do what they want. and, yeah, said supernatural ending is what really traumatized me (There's the same sort of manipulation/inevitability in Midsommar except there's nothing supernatural about that one.) With Talk to Me aside from of course the whole premise being about something supernatural, I think the end contrasts to Hereditary in that she didn't do what they wanted. She realized she was being manipulated and chose to take things into her own hands
This scene gives me hope that a sequel could be a sick Evil Dead 2 situation where go they go more ludicrous and wild with the concept I love all that you lot have pointed out about the more, made me appreciate how good it is. Red to read the ringer criticism, because it’s just shy of the Aster level, but for a first film is surprisingly efficient. Think they’ll knock it out of the park their next one out
Finally got around to this last night and really enjoyed it. The stuff with Riley was genuinely so hard to watch and I felt so bad. I loved how the possessions were treated like a party drug because after watching the trailers, I was worried Mia would do it just once as the inciting incident. The way it went down with Riley and made her want to keep doing it to talk to her mom was so eerie.
