saw this last night, didn't quite love it like some did but there's some killer moments and a lot of promise outside of that. made me think the philippous' next movie will be even better

Really excited to see what's next for the following:

    The Philippous
    Zach Cregger
    Bill Hader (!!!)

Not a horror fan really but this was clever and creative enough that I enjoyed it. Definitely promising filmmaking

But really do people just scream bloody murder the entire time in Australian hospitals? How did that never at any point cause a ruckus lol

Really dug this. Some really intense moments kinda reminiscent of Hereditary in terms of familial relationships/shared traumas. Thrilled to see where this directing duo go from here.

This lost me a little bit in the homestretch, but the ending itself was excellent and overall I thought this was great. One of my favorite horror films of the past decade or so.

I agree with the criticisms of what the rules are with the hand and everything after they let them enter. But loved the vibe so much that I didn’t get too hung up on it.

Really enjoyed this but didn’t understand any of the semantics which is whatever to me but.. how’d she end up getting hit by the car? Did the friend push her to save the brother? Did the mom push her? Or did she willingly throw herself in front of it? And why did that release and save the brother?and the dad survived?! that ending rules, though.

Mia threw herself into traffic. Think about the injured kangaroo…

It didn’t release or save Riley. Cole said earlier that Riley would eventually be fine because the spirits weaken over time.

Yes, her dad obviously survived. He was alive when Jade found him.

why would she do that tho, she seems surprised when she gets up and in the hospital when no one is seeing her. I could buy she did it to be with her mom but like I said, she seems surprised she’s unseen and doesn’t even call out for her mom loved the ending though, maybe just wish it worked better for me how we got there.

I just didn’t understand why the spirits/demons let go of Riley? I know it was said they would weaken over time but when she could see them they told her they’d never let him go. The last 10mins felt incredibly rushed.

the same thing happened right before she stabbed her dad

makes a lot more sense now but it didn’t seem obvious when I was watching it.

I liked it overall but i am getting very tired of the same "trauma" story beats being repeated over and over again in recent horror.

Regardless, the set pieces are killer and it's very well directed. This is a classic example of a calling card movie - I'll certainly being seeing whatever these guys end up making next

This was very solid. Last ten seconds were a trip.

Man, poor Riley. I anticipated brutality, but I didn't anticipate it all revolving around one character. First possession scene reminded me of the bear scene in The Revenant. It just keeps going past the limits of what you expect.

Shower scene was worse for me. Maybe the most frightening scene I've seen since Hereditary. If the last scene is to be believed as real, I'm very surprised that the movie ended well for most characters.

I do agree, I feel like this movie could be the last of its kind to truly innovate. Even with a story as tightly drawn as this, its one weakness for me is so much of it has simply been done before beyond it's main conceit.

  22. Considering all the crazy hype around this, my expectations were a little too high. That said, this was still great and the set pieces were really well done. The cold open party sequence was such an effective way to open the movie imo.

Is it not one of, if not the, best horror movies of 2023 though?

  24. Definitely. I just saw it yesterday, but I'd put it above every other horror I've seen this year. All the hype had me hoping for "best horror movie in years" rather than "best horror movie of the year so far"
