I really do not agree with the BN comparisons for El Paso. Yes, the chorus is shouty and it kind of has a softer verse/loud chorus structure (though the verses don’t really fit into that box) that BN often, but that’s where it ends for me. The main riff sounds nothing like one from BN’s discography, the guitar and bass tones don’t match theirs, and the lyrical style is way different. TBS has one song that does really sound like it’s trying to be BN and that’s Nothing At All on Happiness Is. The first time I heard it I thought it was trying very hard to be a TDAGARIM track. Mike Sapone was a producer on that one, so it makes sense that there would be similar DNA.
I think what brought it home for me when someone said it was some of the ambient/feedback/guitar screeches and such throughout the song which by then was pretty BN coded from their previous two albums. That and the bridge with the back and forth with the high pitch vocals and the screams felt the most BN to me. The rest of the stuff could easily just be classic TBS stuff like the screamy vocals, screaming outro etc. The last time we had seen TBS with John they had already been doing that stuff lol. But then combined with those other elements mentioned above and that's where I really start to see the comparison. I would be very interested to hear an album in that El Paso vein from them but I know that's not happening at this point in their careers. But I could use some good ole fashioned TBS scream singing.
Also maybe a hot take as it's been 15 years now so who knows if he'd still look good, but Adam should go back to this look. Dude looks really good here
For real though. Bands like TBS and Mayday Parade love to tease actual heavy shit now and then and I am just over here like YES PLEASE JUST DO IT MORE OF THAT JUST TRY COME ON MAN but I guess I haven't manifested it hard enough yet.
I’d have to remind myself of specific songs/moments on Daisy to comment more specifically, and I’m certainly not doing that in 2026, lol. But I do remember “El Paso” having a vibe that felt conspicuous at the time. Think some of the layered vocals and “yeah”s were part of it? Imo the recent 152 era of Adam with the long blonde hair is easily the best he’s ever looked. At least as far as my tastes go, lol.
Vices is really the only song I ever compared El Paso too but I haven't listened to it in so long I barely remember it lol. Never was huge on Daisy
They made an IG story recently that made it seem a tour announcement was coming. I don't recall them ever dismissing doing an anniversary tour. They're doing a Louder Now album play at that UK festival too.
Lol it just happened to me. I read those comments and was like “WTF are these people talking about” and then I went to listen to it and I can’t believe I never thought about it. What I do always think is “man this is a Foo Fighters song” when listening to “It doesnt feel a thing like falling”. Anyone else?
I was thinking Bayside would be a great opener if they did a Louder Now tour. They haven’t toured together since the TAYF 10 year tour, it’s kind of overdue.
Anytime New Again or S/T discourse looms on the horizon, I'll make sure to shift the thread to a Happiness Is appreciation one! At this point it's become my favorite post-reunion album and sits comfortably in my Top 3. Hearing Fred over Beat Up Car on their latest tour must've felt just right as his raspier vocals fit the grungy feel of the song and its parent album.
I'm surprised Bayside would do another tour this year given their huge 25 year tour last year but I'd gladly take this tour (again).
Yeah what a bummer... Bayside is a band I never "got" but have had to sit through like a dozen times as an opener for others.
As someone who is actually from Bayside, I really wish I could get into them but they just never clicked for me. Their fans are really obnoxious too. I went to their headliner in 2024 to catch Finch and Armor for Sleep open, and there were so many assholes in that crowd.
I fully endorse this tour. I suppose I haven't seen them enough though to have much knowledge of this fan assholery. I promise I'm not one of the assholes lol
Kinda late to this but I feel like it sounds closer to a Chevelle song than a BN song. I can totally picture Pete screaming that chorus.
