Fred singing the first half of Error Operator in its original key, muscle memory kicked in lol. Dude seemed confused during that song
They sound fantastic. A great, varied setlist too. I love seeing Call Me In The Morning and Beat Up Car pop up.
This alternated between really nostalgic moments and just being rough to watch/listen to for me. I am glad Adam is having a good time but man. I went to all my favorites in the timestamps and at times it was OK and at times it was painful. Dude is alternating between singing/moving like hes trying to make someone laugh and being out of breath / unable to manage his breath for more than a line as a consequence. He's so concerned with the silly gestures/intonations the actual singing of the song seems like more of a side-gig than his main focus. Love TBS, love that they played some great older cuts like Slowdance, love that Fred is up there, but Adam just seems shot. I know its an unfair standard to hold on em years on, but the best 'live' performances for TBS is always going to be The List and 7th Avenue Drop.
I wonder when exactly Adam grew into his current semi tap dancer semi pastor stage presence. When I see anyone criticize him, I tend to think “well he’s always been this way”, then I stumble upon an old performance (think up until 2014 or maybe 2016) and he moves so differently
I like the tap dance pastor presence. I catch myself mimicking it now when listening to them while cleaning or doing some chore haha.
The pastor thing started happening when they were touring for Louder Now. It seemed like he was starting to drop it in 2010 with the reunion, but it’s just his thing.
This is exactly the vibe and thoughts I have when watching recent performances too. It's like he is actively choosing not to sing the songs as well in favor of freestyling the enunciation and hopping all over the place. There are plenty of musical breaks to dance to, just stand a little more still and sing the songs my man.
Haha this is a very, very frequent debate in these forums And, yes, New Again rules. I love Carpathia.
After reading the site since basically AP's inception I decided to join the fun in here. Big fan of it. But yeah, Carpathia is a banger and named after the villain in Ghostbusters 2, at least in my headcanon
I never went to a TBS show for Adam's vocals (nor do I think anyone should) BUT the tour they did for Louder Now and the shows from like 2006-2007 I though was the best he and the band ever sounded...I think there's a YouTube upload of their show from Reading and Leeds 2006 that is their peak performance
did New Again live up to the expectations of the follow-up of Louder Now at the time? Not really. With the passage of time to view it more objectively in the discography? It fuckin rips and has some great songs that I'm sad they're never gonna play live again.
Listen, I never made a scene, they came to me. I also think that it was just a really bad time for the scene in general. Music was moving from on from CD’s, but streaming doesn’t quite exist. The Warped Tour scene was also at a really low point in “coolness”. It was probably during the lowest point for most of those bands. It felt in a major way that the world had moved on from the emo explosion of just a few years before. TBS got a big hit in 06 during the last peak of both the “scene” and of the physical format-driven music industry. There are so may meta factors outside of the “losing a major writer for the band/main singers” aspect. I think the lyrics are what make that album hold up. Adam seems to be at his most depraved in a lot of ways and just is leaning into it. He really snapped on that record to me.
this is rad. Adam messing up the lyrics immediately is so in character and endearing that it doesn't even bother me at this point, and I'm totally here for the absolutely unintelligible lyrics when they're both singing. what a time.
