I’ve never really enjoyed Louder Now beyond MakeDamnSure and My Blue Heaven. That’s actually why I have mixed feelings about Fred possibly becoming a full-time member for a future album: Where You Want To Be is my favorite Taking Back Sunday record, while Louder Now sits near the bottom of my ranking. Plus, I’d love to see the next step after 152 happen in a more “natural” way.
Eddie was apparently the master behind all of their best bridges when he was in the band (e.g. 180 By Summer), but yeah…Keep Going’s bridge is incredible. Fuck, I love a good bridge.
I saw this tour in PA, and it ruled. Pretty much all of those songs translated well into a live setting although I was pretty salty that the crowd was mostly talking through “I Felt It Too”.
When I first heard “The One” I was REALLY unsure of it. Then when they released S’Old, Amphetamine Smiles and Keep Going in the lead up, and I got to hear those songs in the proper order, it was like “oh, shit, they’re actually cooking here”.
Lightbringer & New Music Friday are the strongest songs on 152 but that’s like being the fastest out of a family of Usain Bolts. I’ll Let You Live rules as a closer but Everything Must Go and …Slowdance are tied for their best closers. Louder Now’s biggest flaws are Eric Valentine’s drum sounds and the fact that Up Against made the final cut but Sleep and Brooklyn didn’t. Other than that, great album.
Same. I enjoyed The One and got excited about John’s increased vocal presence, but it didn’t really get me excited. The album was a grower for me too. The first listen I though it was good but nothing special, then the next couple really clicked and it might be a top three album of theirs for me now.
I can't fault Juice 2 Me for having a bad title when I look at most of Tell All Your Friends' titles, lol. I was at a VIP where somebody asked about the title, and apparently it's an inside joke between them, so I guess we'll never know what its true meaning it. I really love the way The Stranger closes out 152, and I think Call Me In the Morning is up there for best album closers. Happiness Is might have the weakest. As much as I love I'll Let You Live as a song, when I think of all their closers, it's not the best overall but it really works specifically as Louder Now's closer. Agree with you on Up Against making that album over Sleep and Brooklyn especially. (I also think How I Met Your Mother being left off Happiness Is was a huge oversight too)
I’ll Find A Way To Make It What You Want and Head Club are the lower tier closers for me, but I still enjoy them. The Stranger, Slowdance, and Call Me In The Morning are my favorites.
"I'll Let You Live" reminds me of Godzilla just stomping his way through a city. I don't know why, don't ask me.
I actually think the demo version of ILYL is probably superior to the album version, at least lyrically. That said, always a song I've enjoyed. TBS has never been a band with good album closers to me (or much thought to album structure/ordering tbf), but Call Me In The Morning is definitely a good closer, especially comparatively.
I didn't check the tracklisting and for some reason, in my head, Homecoming is the closer on Tidal Wave. I completely forgot about I'll Find a Way to Make It What You Want. Oops.
Some of you never got to take a long drive with the boys and shouted Head Club out the windows and I am sorry for you
yeah head club is a fun one to scream along to when you’re young and angsty. Love that transition of “it’s worse than you think” into “on your way home” Slowdance is probably their best closer still IMO. Nothing At All has some cool atmosphere though. New Music Friday is probably my favorite on 152
Its what Godzilla is trying to say to Matthew Broderick when they come face to face in the 1998 movie. The comparison holds up.
it sounds like perfect production as does self titled, eric valentine crushed it behind the knobs and buttons
