I do post it every time it comes up as a meme, but I do genuinely believe it. It feels like Adam at his peak shitty-ness. Both the Fred situation and the relationship breaking up together created a monster lyrically. I also think that his sassy-ness, if you will, is turned up to 11 with fazzi writing these really groovy riffs. There is a groove on that record that isn’t on any other record because fazzi and rubano are R&B guys. I would love to have seen them do more in that direction. My favorite thing they’ve ever done is actually the Live at Orensanz, but as far as studio albums, it’s New Again for me all day.
OK, so their 2nd album has some bangers. Maybe I will more like you guys liking their entire discog, rather than the critics, who don't care about anything after the debut. But yeah, can we please talk more about TBS?
I actually feel like, critically speaking, the majority of their albums have been well-received. It's the (majority of the) TBS fanbase itself who just want to hear shit from the first three albums.
I admit that I am not as aware of other bands' fanbases, so this could just be confirmation bias, but do other bands receive the same level of "they haven't been good since (insert album here)" that TBS seems to? I think a lot of people need to maybe come to terms with the fact they don't actually like TBS; they just like one record they made, and the band likely won't repeat that record again since they've done a lot of growing and changing in the past 20-something years.
I mean, yeah, most bands with a bigger discography are going to have some albums that fans gravitate toward more than others, which will then cause the ranking and "wish they would go back to this" discussions. I do think that TBS is more unique in that they have had so many members, specifically in that second vocalist/guitarist spot who all have their own strengths and lend their own flair to the albums they were involved with, so there is a lot to unpack with any given era of the band.
Adam's "clenchcore" sound is still the only thing that's holding me back from fully enjoying the album. It makes my own jaw hurt. Sparingly is the way to go.
Weezer, bloc party, and the Emo Trinity (My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco) are the first ones that come to my mind. Hell, SNL had a whole sketch about Weezer's divisiveness.
I'm really starting to lose hope about the "Fred joining TBS on their Summer Tour" thing. Maybe the real Fred joining was the friends we made along the way. Regardless though, I'm still very excited about this Summer's tour. Seeing the boys back in action is always a blast, not mention listening to Foxing's discography made me excited to see them too, and Coheed's new album is incredible so I'm looking forward to seeing those new tracks performed live.
Man... mentioning your previous band in the bio of your new band has to be one of the lamest things to do. Will check it out for sure though hahah.
I realize in the jolly year of 2025 that band names are getting harder to choose every day but this is not a good one, and unless they reveal that Fazzi is the frontman or something I am not holding my breath. quick edit: on second thought, I think Eddie must just enjoy being in bands with terrible names (see: FGAD)
Personally, I think it's a great plan to name your band "me" after you/your friends were talking a whole bunch on reddit and in the comments about the big egos in your former band. (Assuming it's M for Mark and E for Eddie and at one point they were testing "marked"?)
